The silence from some of the systemd fan club is deafening. For years, anyone criticizing systemd’s expansion was treated as a luddite. Suggest an alternative init system and you would get lectures about how systemd had already won and everyone else should just accept it. Meanwhile, people were showing up in Void Linux communities asking why Void refused to “modernize” by adopting systemd, as if distributions couldn’t possibly make different design choices.

Now when age verification was introduced in systemd without discussion, a lot of those voices seem remarkably quiet. Apparently the concerns were only stupid when other people raised them. Bigots.

WM: i3, sway, also playing around with dwm

I just need basic functionality, and most tiling WMs are fairly similar. i3 vs. Sway is basically the Xorg vs. Wayland question. I like dwm for its absolute minimalism and the fact that you configure it by editing or patching C and recompiling.

You don’t have such fields in openrc, runit or S6.

You forgot to mention in your list GNU Icecat, though the logo is there. From the list I favour also LibreWolf and the Torproject, though some others are wonderful like Otter, Helium, Qutebrowser, surf or Nyxt.

I don’t know if this is indeed a milestone or may not pose a danger to OS, because large silicon companies eat up all the independent, small groups.
