The European Union agreed to renew sanctions against Russia over the weekend as the bloc and other US allies questioned Washington’s decision to temporarily ease some oil restrictions against Moscow to curb a price surge caused by supply disruptions from the Iran war.
EU countries on Saturday reached a unanimous deal to extend the bloc’s sanctions framework targeting Russian businesses, officials and oligarchs, ensuring the restrictions would not expire over the weekend. More than 2,600 people and entities remain under sanctions imposed since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
