    I am not aware of a whole lot of examples in history in which bombing the shit out a country and killing its two first lines of succession resulted in a new leadership of purring kittens and unicorn dust.

    Honestly doesn’t surprise me at all. Lots of the Iranian population hate the regime. What would it then take for someone to voluntarily work for the regime, at the leadership level no less! There’s no average Joe’s getting in there, that’s for sure.

    If a certain space gains a reputation for being a bit extreme. Then no one not extreme would want to join. Everyone joining would then be the ones who actually agree with the reputation this kind of extreme organisation has. After a while it would be filled with these actually extreme people and it will turn even worse.
