IIRC by that point in the canon, parts of his and 3P0’s memory had been scrambled to protect luke & leia’s identites in case the droids were ever captured, so he didn’t really know either. Hacky writing job but gestures at all starwars writing.

Sorry, I should have been more clear and said the canon timeline. This was from one of the post-prequel comic series (god do I wish I still had them laying around because I do not remember which one it was), and was very transparently added just to paste over that one big plot hole.

Except they made a point of saying on multiple occasions that R2 avoided being wiped, even when 3PO was. That was partially to explain his eccentricities
This was specifically to protect Luke / Leia from Anakin though, and was a voluntary choice on R2’s part (which is in of itself a sign of his eccentric behavior since he’s possessed of far more free will than typical of droids? IDK that might be giving the writers way too much credit).

I had to check to be sure, and yeah, R2 is in that scene in the medical bay. Well, he’s probably smart enough to know that she was just kissing Luke to mess with Han and that nothing was going to come of it.
