No matter how much you idiot proof something, life always seems to produce bigger idiots.

My colleague at work (we’re developers) basically never bothers reading error messages. He’ll sit and get ChatGPT to keep generating different solutions until one works or until he asks me to help, but will literally skip past error logs and error messages output to console or screen, and gets angry when I tell him to stop clicking around and read the logs. It’s really, really strange.

At some point you need to employ some tough love. Tell him ChatGPT can’t do his job for him, it’s only for limited and occasional help. Tell him you can no longer help him if he won’t use the tools of the trade (logs and errors, etc.).

I totally get what you’re saying, and I don’t disagree that would be good - but we are a tiny team and I’m his colleague; not his boss. Believe you me, that would be more trouble than it’s worth, unfortunately!

Sometimes it’s okay to be a bit rude. It’s rare, but every now and again, necessary in order to not become a doormat. It is totally normal and human to try to change your environment (including the behaviour of others) to suit yourself and your happiness.

I’m not a doormat mate, but I do know where my bread is buttered, and I do know that if I just say “no”, my project manager, dept head, and the agency owner (who all sit within about 4 feet of me and my colleague, gotta love open plan offices) would not be best pleased.

I just want to get through my days at a shitty agency and pay off my debt, before I quit the industry and find something that isn’t populated by AI-crazed marketers and money-grubbing, dishonest arseholes. If such an industry exists, at this point 😂

Of course. It’s your life, live it how you see fit. I’ve definitely been in similar shoes.

On a friendlier note, may I just say, you have quite a way with words, and your choice of phrase sparks joy in me. I hope you do find a better life after your debts are paid, as much as I hope you have a good rest of the year, with many more to come.
