Why am I getting ragged on. It just takes me a little bit to get my point across. If you have another way to post it I am all ears. And free books.

Please read some of the books before you give them away. You have a fair bit to learn about the English language before you should consider teaching it.

Lol, why the elitism here? It doesn’t seem like OP is trying to do anything bad.

I think they’re more looking down on the jail itself for not having many books.

As well, writing ability does not indicate someone’s overall level of capabilities.

I don’t think it’s elitist to say that you should read books before you build a library. That’s just good advice. And it’s fair to wonder if someone who cannot string a sentence together reads many books.

The elitist part was saying that someone should learn more about the English language before trying to help others learn.

They didn’t merely"wonder" if someone read many books. They were dismissing someone’s desire to donate books and help people.

Definitely not being elitist. It is elitist for OP to assume they need to “educate” individuals in jail because they’re a nurse. I’m a social worker and have worked with people of all backgrounds including incarcerated. I’ve learned something from every person I’ve worked with and I only teach things within my scope of expertise.

Cool. I was in prison and read a lot in prison. I was very happy that people donated those books and couldn’t give one flying fuck if they wanted me to learn something or not.

I’m surprised that a social worker would be saying “You have a fair bit to learn about the English language” to someone who is looking to donate books to a prison…
