Just sayin…The first way we could fight, and probably the most likely to be successful, is an economic attack. General strikes, mass protests, and civil disobedience still have the chance to sway those in power that if they want to keep their status, they need to side with the masses and not with a megalomaniac dictator. Historically, we have seen great results from strikes and protest - organized labor is a powerful force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, labor unions are at their weakest they’ve probably ever been because the U.S. government and large corporations have been colluding to make unionizing as difficult as possible. That’s not to say it can’t work in a spontaneous and unorganized way, but that requires people to give up a lot of security and comfort, and those who are not marginalized or are actually happy about the whole Trump crowning himself king would not be likely to show any kind of solidarity with others. It’d be an uphill battle, for sure.
The second way, is by abandoning the fight altogether. At some point, people will decide that throwing their lives away for the American Dream, the way of life that hasn’t existed since they were kids, if it ever truly existed at all, is not worth it. Emigrating to another country willing to accept them, or in other words, mass flight from an oppressive regime, is more likely to happen than the third way.
The third way is revolution, a violent and organized militia that forms to overthrow the government and start a new one. As you’ve correctly guessed, it’ll be very hard for a force to fight against a fully-actualized surveillance state complete with the most well funded military on the planet. We’re not there yet, but if the goal was to make it impossible for any kind of resistance to organize and strike at the heart of the regime, they could have that system in place before the end of Trump’s current term. Now, the one saving grace is that the present day U.S. military has zero experience fighting on their own soil, and modern warfare has shifted dramatically from having armies meet each other on the battlefield to asymmetrical warfare, where the under equipped side employs tactics that are difficult to counter or predict in advance - guerilla warfare, hit-and-run strikes, drone attacks, electronic warfare, cyber attacks, suicide bombings, etc. A civil war fought on American soil would be an absolute bloodbath for both sides, but not an easy win for the mighty U.S. armed forces. I wouldn’t count on the armed forces siding with the anti-government faction, either. At least not in any quantity that would matter.
I suppose there is a fourth way, and that is for the state governments to balkanize and secede from the Union. This would ultimately end up in one of two ways - either Trump let’s us go and those former states become countries of their own, possibly banding together to form a new coalition or democratic state. Or, more likely, Trump will go to war with the secessionists and probably win unless those now-sovereign entities can get help from some other country. America won independence from Great Britain thanks in no small part to France, and something like that could happen again if, say, all the west coast states formed their own country and then allied themselves with the Chinese government.
[This comment has been seized by the
FederalImperial Bureau of Investigation]Two ideas; One, never fight a land war in Asia. Similarly, never fight a land war in America. Second, the American military is infamously bad at asymmetrical warfare and vulnerable to sabotage.
Couple that with an entire administration that has decided to make loyalty to the Führer the most important job qualification, and a shit ton of pissed off competent vets who still know how to fly a fighter jet or drive a tank, it would probably be more evenly matched than most Americans think.
Granted, a civil war in the US will, in no scenario, end with us successfully deposing the regime unless we can get a pretty big chunk of the current active armed forces on our side.
Get the military on your side.
Even if you manage to do that where would you get the muskets to arm them all?
I would think it would be obvious but the answer is numbers and guns. A corrupt government would be unable to fight against 10s of millions of armed militants.
Although your question was “How would we fight” and although many Americans like to cosplay as well-armed superheros, there will never be a number of citizens large enough to risk their lives, safety and comfort for a greater good to achieve a successful uprising. The way “we would fight” would be sharing videos somebody else made on social networks, impotently arguing in comment sections and finding echo chambers to talk to like-minded individuals about how terrible the other half of America is.
The bottom part of your comment is what we already do. It’s not really helping anyone else out, unless it’s to basically spread awareness to get “the other half” of the country riled up too.
I think the military oath, “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” would be widely interpreted so that a lot of the internal branches of the military would be divided on if he’s an actual threat.
Personally, I think we’re to that point now where he basically does whatever he wants without proper approvals, and then no repercussions either; so it’s reinforcing the ability to do so and shows how powerless/spineless the rest of the gov is.
While I agree with your entire sentiment,
powerless/spineless the rest of the gov is.
I would add “less openly but equally corrupt” to your summation.
It really comes down to the military rebolting and acts of “terrorism” just like every other country. If you want an idea of where it would go look to turkey as with no guardrails its pretty obvious inflation would spin out of control. World powers would have to go into overdrive getting off the dollar for trade. Europe and china would have no choice but to work together with europe and the euro taking the place of america and the dollar.
Makes you wonder how bad people screwed up in 2024 when they had the chance, doesn’t it. Its not like they haven’t got a trail version.
You need a hero like President Zelinsky of Ukraine
Have Americans even thanked him?
None because the 2nd amendment asshats are the ones licking his taint clean.
Y’all were under a king before and managed to change that.
But that was in a world without ring doorbells and tomahawk missiles. Would it still work?
MAGA always meant “Make America Great Britain Again”
whats the point of the second amendment?
It was more useful before tanks, planes, and… oh…
NUCLEAR MISSILES
…
but nowadays the point is more like a self defence type of thing, since cops are useless.
We should really form well-regulated militias and just get rid of career cops…
Edit: I mean with drone warfare becoming popular…
Maybe we should expand 2nd amendment to cover Attack Drones? 🤔
I think the problem is that those who like to flaunt the second amendment as their patriotic civic duty are the same group that believes Trump can do no wrong. Until most of those fringe right wing militia types are convinced he has to go no action will be taken on their part.
That said I don’t think guns are the answer to the problem at this juncture. Let’s face it, if it comes down to a matter of firepower the US Armed Forces will win every time. The US military budget is more than the GDP of most countries. There are no circumstances where a bunch of hillbillies with guns will ever win that fight.
I would like to point to the sheer number of times that a ‘bunch of hillbillies with guns’ trounced the fuck out of our military just through sheer endurance, stealth, and decentralization.
Simple: You wouldn’t.
