While I think the other user is overreacting, I do agree that i find flashy gifs as a user icon disruptive and inthinknless of the poster. Its not the equivalent of a personalised t shirt IRL.its more like the person on the bus who doesn’t know how tonise earohones and inflicts their bad music choices on everyone else.

      I want more flashy gifs.

I want a rainbow streamer following my cursor.

I want explosive flashes every time I key in a response.

I want a big ORGASMIC *“UNNNNGHhhhhh…” sound to go off every time I hit reply.

I want the world to be a fuller, brighter, more vivid picture. Thats why I’m on the fediverse. Its a space for that.

If you want drab, corporate grey, its not like there aren’t space that offer a muted experience. You can go have that. Its everywhere. But thats not what this space is for.

You should start adding subway surfers gifs to your comments to really lock in the iPad Kid/popup ad aesthetic

The first time in saw an animated gif user icon on the fediverse, i thought : ‘huh, that’s neat, that you can do that’.

The next time, it was : ‘huh, people are going to make them flashy and annoying, aren’t they. Why do people have to ruin everything.’

You do you, but if you enjoy it, you should be aware that notneveruone does and you are actively detracting from other peoples enjoyment, which is by definition, a selfish act, not what the fediverse is about, since you being up a comparison to corporate media.

Have you considered that you might be actively detracting from other peoples enjoyment by not having a cool flashy avatar? The knife cuts both ways.

And like I said previously, 99% of the internet is already geared to your stated preference. And your coming to the tiny 1% of part of the internet and basically asking that it also should meet your preference… Seems a bit selfish.
