The main problem is, that “tankie” governments make people disillusioned with leftism. The average person doesn’t associate leftism with worker’s movements anymore, but with crackpot dictators, that just bans things for no other reason than because he doesn’t like them, and maybe has a team of crooked scientists or sociologists to come up with some reason behind them.
