Yes but say let’s charge them 1 or 3 percent more. Then put that into a fund and give it all to Social Security so we can kick that bucket further down the road? Or use it to increase minimum wage? Ah I’m sorry, yeah I get your line of thought. There are some visas and pathways to citizenship that come with higher fees that are kind of like what you’re thinking.
But yeah, immigrants pay a lot of taxes in the US (which also varies by state). It’s a detail that a lot of people don’t really think about when talking about immigrants and the issues therein.
I like your questions because they almost always stir a good bit of replies. Which sometimes kicks off deeper conversations which is fun!
