They only need to keep him “alive” until August 1st. If he’s announced dead before then, the [D] governor of KY would be able to appoint a replacement.

No. If he dies before Aug 1 then a “special election” is held wherein Massie is likely to run, split the Republican vote, resulting in a Democrat taking the seat.

After Aug 1 the seat will just be filled in the regular election with a MAGA approved candidate in the R column.

I don’t know, but I do assume everyone who was extremely concerned about Joe Biden’s health being “hidden from us” will be really quiet about this

      listening

…hear it? It’s silence from all the hypocritical right wingers who see nothing wrong with this.

      https://apnews.com/article/mitch-mcconnell-senate-illness-hospital-566a584e28137458111cd28ecfceaf8e

Staff for Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell said last week that the senator is “continuing his recovery” in a hospital while the Senate is out of session. But his office has released no details about the former Republican leader’s condition during his weekslong hospitalization or whether he will be at the Capitol when the Senate returns next week.

McConnell was admitted to the hospital on June 14, according to a statement from his office that only said he was “receiving excellent care.” A statement a week later said that he would not be voting that week. And on Thursday, a new statement said that he “continues to improve” and ”appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital.”

It’s still wild to me that elected officials can just choose not to vote. That’s literally their job. The job they campaigned for. The job they wanted enough to sacrifice their morals.

I agree, although I don’t think the solution is to just demand that they have to be there for every vote, even when they’re incapable of doing so. I think they should have second-in-commandd, like a vice president or lieutenant governor.

Sometimes folks get sick. Sometimes they have to travel. Sometimes they die in office! We should just recognize that and allow them to appoint a surrogate to do these things when they can’t.

          I mean…I get it.

I’ve had jobs before where I just DON’T do my job.

What? You say their job is important??? Oh, they’re literally running the country???

          Oh.

Yeah, they should do their job.

goes back to ignoring the front desk

          I think I’ll get a nap in…

        Oh he dead

Joking aside, I think he’s alive, but probably is no longer capable of walking or taking coherently. But that’s fine, senators didn’t need to be able to do any of that stuff to serve their corporate functions. My senator was Diane Feinstien: she was basically a vegetable for something like her last two it three years in office.
