Stuff like this is actually really common.

World leaders constantly have a bounty on their heads or some plot working against them by some enemy regime or extremist group. When a country finds out a plan to take out a world leader in an allied country, they go straight to the targeted country with what they have. That way, if the latter country finds some plot to take out the former country’s leaders, they’ll return the favor.

I know Lemmy is irrational when it comes to this stuff, but it’s pretty standard. Other countries do the same all the time.
