Let me start by saying that I am in no way trying to be racist or anti-Semitic. I truly do not understand the mental gymnastics that these people are doing. I’ve been wondering for quite a while is how can America have so many white christian nationalists, and people who are completely freaking racist about EVERYONE not white christians, but all the while they seem to support Israel which is a Jewish state. Which goes completely against the white christian nationalist movement. How do these people reconciliate those two things? Are they just complete hypocrites in their beliefs?
The doublethink is part of it but American Christians are famously uneducated in their own religion and they feel a debt to what they see as Christianity’s originator and ally against the heretical Islamists. Mix all that up with a media industry disproportionately ran by Zionists and you’ve got the current conundrum.
American Christians aren’t a monolith. They are a coalition of fundamentalist leaning sects, that are often far more right-wing of the more popular and mainline versions of Christianity. Fundamentalist Catholics have more in common with fundamentalist Baptists than they do with mainstream Catholics, etc.
They align mostly with the hard right in Israeli who are also majority supported my fundamentalist sects of Judaism.
Unacknowledged on fedi, but there are left-wing Israelis and liberal version of Judiasm, but in terms of politics and money… they are far less powerful and influence than their right wing counterparts.
