This was 100% a political optics thing run by “red” states and “red” politicians. It consists of sweeping up unhoused people in a “red” city, or somewhere in a “red” state (most typically, FL and TX, as the governors there are extremely supportive of draconian immigration policies for political reasons - despite the fact that said hostile policies are actually actively harmful to their regional economies), sticking them onto Greyhound buses to major “blue” cities, waiting for the unhoused population of those recipient cities to explode, and then pointing at the completely synthetic situation as evidence of gross mismanagement by “blue” city/state politicians. It’s not being done as aggressively right now because it’s simply not the currently biggest political hot button in the US right now.
