I assume one becomes a chef because they have a love for cooking and food and the artistry involved, but I can’t think of anything more eroding to that love of the craft than the kind of working day I see chefs and other kitchen staff go through. It seems to an outsider like me that it’s basically a shift-length panic attack, every day. But that can’t be the case, or no one would do the job!

Yes, stimulants slow down an ADHD brain. When I tried out drugs a couple decades before being diagnosed cocaine was weird for me because everyone else who used it acted like I felt all the time while I calmed down and felt chill like everyone else did when they smoked weed.

Telling a doctor this helped when getting diagnosed.

Being on Lemmy, I’ve started to notice how little I know about conditions I’ve had my whole life. I guess I simply got the diagnosis and then that was it, for whatever reason didn’t really feel much interest in reading about it.

It might be different depending on when you get diagnosed. For me getting diagnosed in my 30s it was like seeing my entire life experience validated and that came with things I could do to mitigate the downsides.

Yeah, for many people they do that! But if your brain is in absolute overdrive by nature it’s actually a performance boost to slow it down to a point where you have proper control over it.

Not necessarily, people react differently to different stimulants. For me, coffee calms down my mind but makes my body feel perky. Others do get sleepy with it.

The only and only time I tried cocaine is how I eventually found out I had ADHD. it definitely didn’t do anything to make me want to party - I could think straight and wanted to go somewhere quiet to enjoy the mental quiet.

I have ADHD (actually diagnosed, in childhood) and coffee doesn’t put me to sleep, much to the contrary. A little amount wakes me properly.

There are different types of ADHD so it might be why.
