Tiny violin to every Latino who voted MAGA than got leopardsatemyface at all the deportations.

A double middle finger to all the Latinos working for ICE who will one day stand in that same concentration camp when they’ve run out of Grandmas to lock up.

I’d venture to say most Cubans aren’t MAGA, given it’s blockade of their country leading to their suffering.

Oh, we’re talking about the Cuban-American sugarcane plantation owners who were forced out of Cuba by the Cuban slaves they ‘owned’, not the actual Cubans…

My father in law is Puerto Rican, and certainly not born to a wealthy family, but most of his family is Republican. They also know many people from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and elsewhere who came from very poor areas and are still staunchly Republican.

They’ve been convinced that they “made it the right way” and that all these other people who are just like them are somehow trying to cut in line or get free handouts. They can’t see that these people are in the same scenario they were in, or even the same scenario they’re in now. It’s all just falling for propaganda.

Cuban-American here. Cubans over a certain age are most definitely MAGA. Most of the ones who came here escaping Castro, as well as most of the ones raised by those same people here in the states, are MAGA or hard-right leaning. I’ve gone into this before on Lemmy, so I’ll copy/paste what I wrote then:

My mom is Cuban. She came to the US in '61. The Cubans were indoctrinated to believe that Kennedy, a Democrat, was responsible and that his party were all Socialists and that led to Communism.

This is why most Cubans believe what they do and vote GOP. It is absolutely based in ignorance.

She voted for a Democrat for the first time in 2008 and has ever since. It’s better than the alternative. But I’m not going to convince a 72 year old woman in the starting stages of Alzheimer’s there’s a better way.

Peter Pan and Mariel Boat Lift Cubans are less likely to be MAGA/GOP. Another thing to take into account is that the diaspora is not friendly or kind to Cubans who don’t share their views. My mom and grandma were both shunned by the rest of my family who are MAGA. We were referred to as socialists (in my case, that’s not wrong) and in others cases, we would altogether not be invited to family gatherings simply due to political bent.

      The Cuban-American diaspora is fucked.

Cuban-Americans* over a certain age are MAGA.

Because MAGA has most recently promised they’ll crush Cubas success and get their slave colony back for them. They don’t see or care about the suffering inflicted on Cuba and it’s citizens.

It is good to see some of the younger Cuban-Americans breaking away from that indoctrination.

What had me commenting was the articles use of ‘Cubans’ and the implication that they mainly support MAGA. They don’t mean Cubans, nor do they care what actual Cubans think. They meant Cuban-Americans, a very different group, whose priority is recapturing their slave colony.

(Generalised, again good on you and your mom for breaking away from that.)

Wtf is this narrative? The overwhelming majority of MAGA Cubans are just ignorant racists. Just a bunch of assholes being loud and dumb playing dominoes in their section 8 housing.

Most Cubans in America just wanted to GTFO. Revolutions suck for the average person, worse with sanctions. The plantation owners got the fuck out way before things like the Mariel boat lift.

The overwhelming majority of MAGA Cuban-Americans* are just ignorant racists.

Ignorant racists that support the suffering being inflicted upon their own ‘home country’, as evidenced by their continued support of MAGA. Traitors to their own country and undeserving of the title ‘Cuban’ in my opinion.

The overwhelming majority of Cubans, are still in Cuba.

I’ve generalised quite a bit in this conversation. There is of course quite a bit more nuance than I’ve touched on; and groups of Cuban-Americans out there that see past the lies they’ve been told, disillusioned and against the suffering inflicted upon their home. To those I salute you.

How many of those respondents are actually Cubans (ie peoole that actually live in Cuba) vs Cuban-American slave owners that were forced out of Cuba to America and just want their plantations and slaves back?

Nobodys actually asking Cubans, because they don’t care what Cubans think/want. America just wants to retake it’s slave colony.

It says on the infographics. They were definitely Cuban Americans from Miami.

Most of those hardliners are dead or near it. This support for Trump is nothing new and it is persistent because they overwhelmingly voted for MAGA.

If you read farther down you see strange things like them not wanting Trump to negotiate with the ruling family and not approving of allowing the Cuban government to continue to exist with only economic reforms.

Is it really anti-Cuban or just anti-Castro. Also, where is the line drawn. I always ask myself the question do the Cuban Americans really want to punish the Cuban government so bad they are willing to hurt the Cuban people? I think the answer is yes.

They were definitely Cuban Americans from Miami.

My bigger point is these people have little to no legitimacy in claming to be Cuban. They were rightly forced out by the population they had enslaved, and continue to seek greater suffering for those people.

They don’t GAF about the actual Cuban population, all they see is a farm they no longer control and that infuriates them.

Fuck these people and what they have to say; they do not speak for Cuba.

CUBANS - actual Cuban people, that live in Cuba - do not support MAGA, nor most of America and it’s government. For damn good reasons.

If you read father down you see strange things like them not wanting Trump to negotiate with the ruling family and not approving of allowing the Cuban government to continue to exist with only economic reforms.

Because these people seek only the eradication of those who opposed them, and the return of their slave colony.

Note: There are groups of Cuban-Americans who do believe in true justice for Cuba and it’s people, and have disillusioned themselves from the indoctrination of their peers. I applaud those that have and hope they’ll fight for their country.

Let’s not forget that many Cuban Americans are in the same exact lot as other Hispanic Americans who vehemently rode for Trump because they believe they’re genetically superior immigrants who’ve struggled to get citizenship.

They all just want to be white Nazis so damn badly. They celebrate when the US attacks and massacres people in their homelands. Then they act all shocked and baffled when ICE kidnaps them and their family, as if they weren’t told by Trump over and over that he was gonna do just that.

If you are Cuban overseas or Iranian overseas it was easy to cheer when Trump got started on his brutal campaigns, but today, watching your country suffer wanton bombing and crippling blockades you must start to be concerned for the welfare of kin still there. If I was an Iranian living in Cali and I hear Trump talking about obliterating my birth country I would be saying…hey, cowboy, slow down.

Then a supportive neighbor showed her a letter to the editor that had appeared in the Miami Herald, written by a group called Cuban American Women Supporting Democracy . Reach out to them, the neighbor suggested.
When she attended her first meeting in 2019, Laurencio was relieved to find a group of like-minded women. “I could express myself and not be looked at as some kind of weirdo or communist , like they all say,” she told me. “I didn’t leave the Republican party. The Republican party left me. It’s not the party of Reagan or George Bush.”
Now, she is part of Cuban American Women Supporting Democracy, a nonpartisan organization that since its official founding in 2023 has championed immigration reform, opposed the book ban in the Miami-Dade County school district, supported abortion rights, voting access, and various local and state political candidates. Their members attend protests, including at the notorious Alligator Alcatraz immigrant detention facility, as well as school board meetings. In 2024, they mailed thousands of cards to eligible voters, urging them to support Amendment 4, the failed ballot initiative to preserve the right to an abortion in Florida, which now has a six-week ban.
Honestly, thanks for sharing this comedy, Sunshine. I had my laugh at how utterly close Maria was to comprehending she was duped thrice.

For the ignorant, MJ is making DemaProp.

while the GOP spoke openly about ending communism. “They put boots on the ground.”
“When the Cuban government refused to engage in serious reforms, both economic and political, there was a huge disappointment in the Cuban American community,” said Sebastián Arcos, interim director of the Cuban Research Institute at FIU. “The pendulum swung back and swung hard in the opposite direction.”

Worth noting how many people are terrorized by MAGA-world if they express any degree of dissent from its crusade on Latin America.
