Idk… Sometimes I end up with nothing but keys in my hand and think I forgot my lighter just because the FOB for my car is the same shape and size as a BIC.

I have multiple accounts just for if one instance goes down. It’s already helped because my primary instance, Yiffit, closed entirely. I originally joined Lemmy.World and moved to Yiffit because, at the time, World was constantly going down due to the massive influx of users clogging the works.

I wouldn’t even mention anything about servers or how it works, since most anyone I would even tell about Lemmy won’t understand the technical details, nor would they care. It would only confuse them and push them away.

Just hook them up with an instance they will fit into, and have them use the site. I really think that a lot of the other tech nerds here are overthinking it and trying to get non-tech minded people to switch by giving them technical details that do more harm and cause more confusion than simply having them use the site without knowing jack shit about it other than “it’s like Reddit but not shitty.”

That’s really all you gotta tell most people; “it’s like Reddit (or Twitter if you’re trying to talk up Mastodon), but not shitty.”

I read once that Coca-Cola mixes the ratio of syrup to carbonated water in the 2-liter bottles in a way that accounts for being watered down by ice.

I don’t know how true that is; I don’t even really drink Coke. But I mean… It makes sense to do and they definitely, and famously, micromanage the ratio at McDonald’s. The coke is even on its own separate line, in their own crazy tanks. At least, it is at the ones I clean up.

There’s no reason why they can’t if they qualify for them, afaik. If you have literally zero income and nobody is feeding you, you qualify.
