It wasn’t specifically 1 go though, its comparing to a horse riding for the full day. So you can take breaks as long as you do it within the full day. Around 12 hours of daylight, obviously it varies but that impacts the horse we are comparing to as well. 3-4 hours of constant riding with as many breaks as you like during the day.

If you go from not biking to biking 50km good luck with not being able to walk the next few days.

3 hours is what Google maps suggested. For that distance then yeah maybe first time riding it will take a bit longer. Also type of bike would influence it a fair bit too.

Exactly, a day is a long time. You can take breaks along the way and don’t have to push yourself for speed. When I was in my teens the local scout group often went to the next town over, about a 20km round trip. No one trained for it, some people may have been a little tired by the end of it but not excessively so and it was fun.

Similar trips done both walking and cycling, of course cycling it takes much less time. Even our school ran a bike trip at the end of the year, wish I measured the distance but certainly 10s of km as it was pretty much a full school day riding. Minus maybe an hour at the start of the day to check over bikes and a bit for lunch.

Here up to 3 miles each way is considered a reasonable distance for kids over the age of 8 to walk or cycle to school - which comes to just under 50km in total over 5 days. Above that distance assistance can be offered by the local government.

For me it was more like 30-40km from 11 onwards.

Maybe the info I found online is wrong but looks like a horse and rider can go about 50km a day. Going by Google maps that is around 3 hours by bike and their times I find are not too far off a casual bike ride for someone who doesn’t do any racing training.

If you have a racing bike and use it frequently then then you could probably cut it down to easily under 2 hours.

Bikes can typically go further than horses in a days travel. Unless you have a lot of horses to switch through and have them positioned along your route.

Ahh, yeah the midea portasplit (or similar models) are heat pump designs. I do have a heat pump but it’s air to water. So it does my hot water and central heating. As it’s in the UK it does make sense for that as a main one, AC is far less important here and a single room unit is probably reasonable.

AC for comfort in summer, heating to survive winter.

Can’t fit one in our living room currently because of the type of windows. But we do want to replace our windows at some point. Probably going to be a next summer thing at this point. Hopefully we have passed the worst heat wave already.

Plus when I get it I can always use it as a dehumidifier still, pretty useful when hanging clothes inside to dry.

Have been thinking of getting a single room unit just to take like 5c off the living room. But I also want efficiency with a proper unit, maybe the midea portasplit. Bit pricey. Could run it as a dehumidifier in winter too though which is useful. It’s also a backup heat pump if our main heat pump was to fail. Though both use electricity.

Every live OS I have ever run can see physical drives if they exist, sounds very odd to not be able to see it from there and yet grub loads.

If grub loads can you boot a recovery image from there? Are you sure grub isn’t installed anywhere else too

If they don’t see the drive at all it’s fucked. If they see the drive but not partition I normally use testdisk to try and recover the partitions, photorec to look for files if that doesn’t work and it’s not encrypted.

If it isn’t visible at all then you are looking at drive repair, if you are asking this question that probably isn’t something to attempt. Try another set of cables and port just in case that is the issue though.
