On average there are 4.3 births per second, I’m not sure how that compares to in 1970 but its probably still more than 1 so its quite likely someone was born exactly on unix time 0.

Experiencing certain forms of violence and harassment and having low-moderate social support from any source was associated with higher prevalence of suicidal ideation. Social support from family moderated the association between experiencing certain forms of violence and harassment and suicidal ideation (p interaction = 0.01); however, even in the presence of high family social support, experiencing certain forms of violence and harassment was associated with higher prevalence of suicidal ideation.

n = 1608 on this one.
Every study I’ve ever seen that looks at the link between social support and depression/suicidal thoughts in trans people shows a very clear link. Given the prevalence of transphobia in our society, this can entirely explain the increase in suicidal thoughts in trans people.
Yeah I’ve felt similarly before. I agree with the other though, drinking more water helps.
Lower self-reported transphobia was associated with a 66 % reduction in ideation, and an additional 76 % reduction in attempts among those with ideation

An increase by one context in which a chosen name could be used predicted a 5.37-unit decrease in depressive symptoms, a 29% decrease in suicidal ideation, and a 56% decrease in suicidal behavior.

Socially transitioned transgender children who are supported in their gender identity have developmentally normative levels of depression and only minimal elevations in anxiety, suggesting that psychopathology is not inevitable within this group.

So yes. Increased depression and suicide among trans people is, according to the research, entirely correlated with social factors like how much they are accepted by friends/family and chosen name use.
True, but I dont want reddit’s shitty NSFW tagging system to distract from the important issue here
It does need better tagging but honestly thats not the issue here. This is because of the new UK law, simple as.
People have talked about this before, but it really does seem like people have forgotten how bad some of these diseases could get and how much vaccines helped us. In 1991 plenty of folk remembered polio, maybe even had a relative who got it. Good number remembered smallpox and/or got that shot themselves. But now less and less people really understand both the scale of devastation those diseases caused and the scale of how many were helped and saved by vaccines.
The middle class still works to make a living. So they are part of the working class.
Yeah this is the thing that makes me really disagree with the whole “landlords are necessarily bad” thing. A lot of them are, to be sure, and there is so much wrong with our housing market, but there should still be a place for those who wish to rent to rent. I mean just speaking for myself right now, I would not want to own a home right now, even if it was affordable. I’d like to some day but where I am at life right now I would rather rent.
Obviously this is subjective, but I use android auto all the time and something similar for a linux phone would be really nice for me. Don’t dismiss them just cause you wouldn’t use them
I’m sure the people getting deported to concentration camps and losing their healthcare will understand that you not voting was just to save the children in gaza (oh wait, they’re dying anyway)
Edit: also are you genuinely claiming that Harris would have done all of those things that I listed? Every single one of them? Be so for real. If that’s actually where your head is at you are so unbelievably out of touch I think you’re beyond saving.
I’d say its more complicated than that but yeah absolutely that administration didn’t try to stop it, it clearly wasn’t their goal in the slightest. They did very little (though even that very little was more than the trump administration has ever done or tried to) but I’m not gonna act like Kamala Harris would have been like the fuckin savior of Gaza cause that’s just false.
However, if Harris had won the election, we would:
I totally understand why people were really upset about that last point. I was/am too. But I have a few thoughts:
No, but less is better than more
The comments that already exist are pretty good but I’d like to bring up that I dont think it’s all that unique to Europe. Look at imperial Japan, for instance. I haven’t witnessed this myself, but I hear Korea has some cultural resentment towards Japan (particularly from older folk) thats not unlike how some affected cultures feel about their former European colonizers.
