  • What’s for dinner? Why do I have to eat this? Why do I have to go to bed? Why do I have to get up? Why do I have to go to school?

The flip side of having kids is when they start asking really fun questions about science and nature and you get to share the wonder of the universe with them, but holy hell kid… I’ve answered your question 5 times already and the answer isn’t changing at all.

  • Consulting and Project management are ripe for AI disruption. No way will they be eliminated, but an AI camera tracking the blue collar workers plus a “manager” who is just a data entry clerk, especially when combined with other data sources will remove a massive amount of managing a project.

Consultants and Sales to a large degree are just about listening to clients whine about something and repeating back to management (in a different voice) the same things that their own staff is saying. LLMs are good at being that different voice.

  • Correct, we don’t need Doctors for every scrape in the exact same way that I can explain a social situation to a LLM and it can help by referencing back to published literature on that particular topic, suggesting clear guidelines as to how to move forward. Sure there are also broken arms and cancer exists, but the base level (and moving up the chain) is absolutely coming for Psych work.

  • I played a brass instrument for 9 years and was good enough that I could’ve probably made a career of it, but it’d have been a struggle for sure.

I’ve dabbled in guitar for close to 30 years now and highly suggest that it’s a better instrument, especially for solo play than anything that is going to make single tones. Chords of any type allow for much richer music when you’re alone.

I did have a parent that made me take a year of piano lessons as my first instrument, but I quit that for the brass. I do wish I had kept after piano/keyboard as it’s much more versatile.

  • I’m gonna disagree. At 15, I’m absolutely fine with you wanting to be a different gender, but your body and brain have a long way to go before they are fully developed and adding chemicals isn’t something I can get behind. In the same way that avoiding peanuts is linked to causing peanut allergies, at 15 your body generally knows what to do. There are certainly edge cases that a qualified doctor can advise on, but I’d caution against adding to the crazy mix of hormones that are already racing through any 15 year old’s body.

  • Uh… where exactly? There’s not a lot of land that isn’t claimed by someone already and unless you’re willing to hold whatever new nation you’re trying to form by force, you’ll have a hard time. Trying to do that in the middle of the Gobi Dessert probably only requires a few million in weapons, but water is gonna be hard to come by. Trying it inside the USA is gonna be pretty tough. I’ll suggest buying an island for a couple billion, spend another couple billion on infrastructure and then just a kinda lay-low government, where you don’t officially claim independence, but also don’t really follow the laws you don’t like (see Epstein island for more details).
