downloading things has never been illegal in the us. that does not infringe on copyright ever. Uploading and sharing is copyright infringement, which is why torrenting is illegal (uploading while downloading)

shut down and its encrypted? ofc you also have to have a decrypt password. I use luks so if my computer gets stolen my files arent readable, which is true because they cant leave my house without unplugging it

Edit: I do want to say that after reading this blog post I have become a bit more lenient on ATProto. It seemed rather neutral and objective and found several upsides that I think are worth taking a look at.
