Stop using proprietary software. It will always betray you, sooner or later.
That goes double when a serviceable Free Software alternative exists and you lose little by switching.

I’m surprised Lemmy apparently has had hardly any penetration into the Spanish-speaking world yet. Is there some other Reddit-like service that’s popular with those folks?
Also a long those lines, I wonder what services the Indians and Chinese are using?
That’s true, but it doesn’t mean truly communist ideas don’t exist. Both the Fediverse and Free Software, as concepts, are pretty darn “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” if you think about it, ya know?
Nope, the opposite: in the absence of an explicit license, the default is “all rights reserved.”
Brave’s business model is a crypto scam wrapped in a protection racket. It man-in-the-middles the site’s ads, replacing them with Brave’s own, then holds the revenue hostage unless the site gives legitimacy to Brave’s crypto by accepting it as payment.
For comparison, “normal” ad-blocking consists of an end-user exercising his property right to control the operation of his own computer by programming it not to display the ads at all.
Hopefully you can see how the thing Brave does is very different, and much more ethically fraught.
YSK that, in general, you should only ever use Android apps from F-Droid unless you’ve got a very good justification for doing otherwise. That’s especially true for generic/basic utility apps like calculators, calendars, and file managers, classic games like solitaire or tetris, and Lemmy clients.
Excessive configuration can be a problem of its own (can lead to decision fatigue, for example). I think it’s okay for the Voyager dev not to try to please everybody all the time, and for people who really want margins to use a different app.
Got a good recommendation for the video one you mentioned? I have some videos digitized from VHS tapes that I’d like to clean up. (I’m only interested in models I can run locally, BTW, for obvious privacy reasons.)
I don’t think he is or was a nazi. I think he made lots of dark fucked up jokes like many other major youtubers. For example: iDubbzz, Filthy Frank, and h3h3. I think he regrets it like many of his fans who laughed at those dark jokes. I laughed at lots of fucked up shit I find very distastful now. People grow up, people change.
Funny thing about that: it doesn’t actually matter what he intended or if he self-identifies as a Nazi or not; the shit he did radicalized people into Nazis all the same.
I mean, they fucking named the phenomenon after him, so it’s hardly as if he’s a marginal example of it!
The closest thing so far has been tariffs that came and went.
For the record, they were only delayed for 30 days, not cancelled.
Also, Trump just announced some more today, so that’s fun.
You’re right that the actual brunt of the effects haven’t hit yet, though.
In my case, it’s less about being able to open more Firefox tabs and more about Firefox being able to go longer between crashes due to a memory leak. (I know, I know… Firefox doesn’t have memory leaks anymore. It’s probably due to an extension or some bad JavaScript in one of my perpetually-open sites or something. One of these days I’ll get around to troubleshooting it…)

My variable (usage-based) utility bills are sent as “e-bills” to my bank, so the bank’s bill pay system can pay them anyway. I can even set it up to pay in full up to some limit, so it doesn’t blindly pay if the bill is outrageous due to some mistake.
Further infuriating is I have to re-add my bank info to yet another third party system.

Edit: just to be clear, I’m not mocking OP.
Either that, or it’s not selling out to corporate exploitation/AI like Github is and the ancaps hate that.
But it’s not carrot soup or butternut soup. It’s “pumpkin spice soup.” Only pumpkin spice, presumably.
In the last decade, I’ve had that sort of issue affect me twice:
Anyway, I guess the gist is that I wouldn’t have expected Windows to do any better in either case.
It’s a little thing we call “tyranny.”
You say “yet” as if there’s any indication it will ever start.
Inspired by yesterday’s Jeff Geerling video, were we?
