  • I know of those tools, but travel, especially 3 or 4 trips adds up, so to start something where travel is involved, the costs add up quick. I have an amount I’m willing and able to invest in the effort, and I want to do it correctly the first time. The biggest barrier for me is simply fighting the anxiety and doing the it the first time.

  • It can seem like the best idea in my head and to people I tell it to, but is it worth the hassle of making something of it. I have yet to have 1 person outside my friends say it sounds like something they would watch. The best anyone says is I’m sure there is someone who would watch it, but I have not met that someone, and traveling for fun and no filming would look very different from traveling for fun with filming. And if its not going to make money, at some point I will need to figure out income, I can only live for so long on my savings.

  • The focus actually isn’t the train, but where the train can take you. Plenty of people already make videos x number of hours on train going from city to city where they just talk about the train. This is more about all those little stops the train stops at between the cities and the potential *day trips that you could do. The long term goal would be for this to be an income source, so if I enjoy it and it doesn’t work out, I guess its not wasted time, but its time and money I won’t get back.

    * day if there were more than one train a day.

  • I think the lowest estimates I’ve seen are about $50k in the US for a commercial rating (minimum 250 hours), but you can’t get any “real” jobs until you can get an ATP (minimum 1500 hours).

The youtube channel will probably require about $5k up front. There is so much to learn to get started, and so much planning and prep, and I sometimes have trouble with motivation, but I’m trying. I can do this and the pilot training at the same time.

  • I have 3 things on my list, an art website (Very difficult to do how I envision it given the current political climate). I’ve actually been working on it for over a year. 2. learn to fly. Don’t know exactly where I want to end up, medical transport or similar I think would fit with me, I don’t want to do charter or business flying, but its hard to build hours without it. 3. Recently had an idea for a youtube channel where I visit the little towns that Amtrak runs through.

I have one job I applied for that I had an interview for, still waiting to hear back, but honestly not that hopeful.

  • I’m about to be unemployed (The company I work for has a very nice separation policy). The project I was working on had some complicated funding issues, and for the specific work I do, that problem seems to be widespread. I’m going to try to use this as an opportunity to try something completely different.

  • I DON’T AGREE WITH MOST OF THE FOLLOWING. what follows is simply my best guess.

Different people are going to have different reasons, the first two are the majority of the voters the rest are for the owner class.

    1. Take the following statements to be true: Taxation is theft, government action is evil. If you apply no other logic, many of the actions make sense. The CFPB is government action, therefore evil and should be removed.
    2. ANY regulation impedes the free market. CFPB is a regulation it impedes the free market
    3. It helps the selfish people doing it. They will be able to take more risky positions at the expense of the public and make money.
