  • It’s in reality it’s somewhere in the middle. There aee definitely people out there that don’t want to see anything non white being represented as anything other than subservient to Whites. But on the other side some elements of Hollywood or any production companies use inclusivity as a shield to stamp down any criticism no matter how much is constructive. Because at the end of the day they don’t care about the art they care about their money.

Like for example if you ever read DC comics especially but also another forms of media. They have just been around a long time so it’s more pronounced. You will notice a trend of characters that were Red Headed when inclusivity initiatives were publicized they were the characters that changed to Black.

To me you are just swapping one minority to another and patting yourself on the back. Instead of creating dynamic interesing characters that are three dimensional and just so happens to be Black. A good example of this is Static Shock I don’t like Virgil becase he is Black I like him because he is a kick ass and interesting character that happens to be black. To do any less is no different than the stereotypes from The Song of the South.

Hell look at South Park Tolkien is one of the kids that has his shit together with awesome loving parents and holds his own with the other kids. He is not a stereotype nor is he held up to be symbol of diversity. Hell the joke token calls that out.

So because corporations uses it as a let’s score some points in a hollow cynical way of making money. The small loud voices of bigots are used to get the wider group to come to the products defense for even wider profits for the company.

Because most people are good at least I hope they are and their logic is even if this show is bad I believe in having these voices represented so I will defend it so they make more. To me that’s not good enough those voices need to be respected as well. Not used as a gimmick or a pat on the back. It’s the equivalent of donating a $1000 and spending $1,000,000 publicizing it.

  • my wife and I even fall asleep to the enterprise background engine noise on loop. It may sound counter intuitive but you know that episode of DS9 where Miles gets locked away for like 30 years but it was all in his mind for a few minutes?

Hard Time it’s called. We’ll when I’m having one of bad PTSD days from my time in the service. I put on that episode to calm me down. It’s like Julian puts his hand on my chest and tells everything maybe bad today but we will get through it and tomorrow maybe a little bit better. That little scene at the end has pulled me back from the edge more than once.

  • The class war, hell nuclear war I can believe we can beat. The climate is where I don’t see a way out. Even if we did an Apollo level effort as a whole world coming together like today. It would not be enough it would be better sure but not enough.

But we are not doing that we have to do the class war / undo fascism and the water wars first before we eventually start to make make a major effort. It’s like recycling they all tell us if I just sort these cardboard boxes I will makes the world a better place as company dumps plastic waste in the water supply. It’s diminishing results and that equals not enough.

  • Pretty down I realized today the reason Star Trek being made today is not aspirational like old trek was. At first I thought it was bad writers not getting star trek but now I understand, the writers can’t write aspirational when they don’t see a future deep in their heart.

Becase deep down we all know we can never make it to that world with peace and a bright future. We will hate and kill each other till the climate wipes us all out and the only life in the solar system is microbes on Mars.

  • It’s all about execution everyone should be questioning themselves if they are correct in there thinking and creating an atmosphere of wanting to be proving wrong. If I join the group with an agenda of tearing down the group then no it’s not an echo chamber when I get kicked out. But if I join and then notice something about the tulips like they use too much water or are bad for the soil and I bring that evidence with the intent to have a good faith discussion about it. But I’m still kicked out that’s is an echo chamber.
