I’m curious what lead to both of these posts

Wow. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. You have more patience than I do.

Thanks, good info. That is one thing I think I like less about Lemmy vs Reddit. On reddit we only had to worry about certain subreddits, but here we have to worry about communities and entire instances… I’ll just have to get used to it and maybe make a new account on another instance after comparing them some more.

I’m sorta new here myself so I might not get all this right, but decentralized is what it sounds like; Lemmy as a whole is not hosted by one central person/company. Instead, each Lemmy server (instance?) is hosted by a different person or group, so if lemmy.world ever gets shut down you’ll still be able to use all the other servers like Lemmy.zip or Lemmy.ml.
The fediverse, short for federated universe, encompasses all software that uses the ActivityPub protocol (I think) so Lemmy is only part of the fediverse. Mastodon is also part of the fediverse, although it is more similar to Twitter rather than Reddit, and since both Lemmy and Mastodon are part of the fediverse they can view and post content to each other. I don’t understand the cross communication aspect well so if someone else knows I would be happy to hear.

Hmmm maybe all the ghosts want to haunt somewhere less crowded so they can become famous.

Not your fault. Companies only care about money so they get rid of employees as soon as they can. Sorry that happened though. Hopefully you got decent severance, and don’t forget to claim unemployment benefits.

Yes!! I think Microsoft wants the same thing since that’s when support for windows 10 ends.
What do you mean by this? Isn’t Google’s signing key only used to verify an update for an app is actually the for correct app? Even if Google could decompile the app, they wouldn’t have access to Signal’s servers or any encryption keys so they could read any messages.
