Ah you rock, thank you! This was literally 5 minutes of my day haha
For any other non techies, it’s this easy!

No chance these background processes are a relatively simple change for us less technical folks, hey?

Re: Proton - my understanding of the situation is that they made a (blog) post endorsing one action by Trump (nominating a lady very competent in the tech space, I think specifically relating to privacy), which was blown out of proportion by ppl who want to paint with broad strokes.
IIRC, they even distanced themselves from trump within that post, or shortly thereafter in a social media post. It’s been a while but unless I missed something after the blow up, I don’t think they’ve done anything to endorse him
Edit: I couldn’t find the original, but at least stumbled across a timeline. Anyways, I remember thinking at the time I can at least understand this position from his perspective. I’ll leave it to other to decide https://techissuestoday.com/proton-ceo-responds-to-backlash-after-his-post-supporting-trump-selection/
Edit 2: I’m into it now. I’ll let the Proton CEO’s own words speak on his behalf (from link). Sorry for making this so long.
“First, while the X post was not intended to be a political statement, I can understand how it can be interpreted as such, and it therefore should not have been made. While we will not prohibit all employees from expressing personal political opinions publicly, it is something I will personally avoid in the future. I lean left on some issues, and right on other issues, but it doesn’t serve our mission to publicly debate this. It should be obvious, but I will say that it is a false equivalence to say that agreeing with Republicans on one specific issue (antitrust enforcement to protect small companies) is equal to endorsing the entire Republican party platform.”

The enemy of my enemy is my friend

This is what I was taught as well. It’s a very intentional “not quite 2x4”, but saying that every time gets tiring haha

This is an instance where username very much checked out

If you’re doing some long term planning and want max hockey, this is probably something you want to look into for 2027/28. Will be expensive but can probably do some multi game deals: https://www.nhl.com/news/world-cup-of-hockey-2028-to-be-played-in-calgary-edmonton-prague
Other than that I strongly recommend looking into some WHL and OHL seasons - all young players trying to get into the NHL, so on average the hockey is grittier and more interesting. NHL players have already made it so, though it always draws a crowd, you get more “phone it in” type games in the regular season. Playoffs are another monster entirely in both levels.
I haven’t read the other comments yet, but the budding PWHL has the skill of the NHL with the scrappiness of professional women’s sport. Phenomenal hockey.
Happy travels!

Unilateral discourse, of course!

This is an interesting take haha. I’m Canadian and have never once heard of Americans being nicer than Canadians - it is part of our national identity that we’re"oddly nice". I’ve heard more of the “Americans are big and take up space” commentary from above, and have even heard it in Canada (and we share a lot of cultural similarity). Not saying you’re wrong, I just found this such a reversal of my experience I had to comment. Overall, I love my siblings to the south :)

Hufishity?

I fear there are heavy “lunch is served” overtones to this, and I don’t mean a catered meal 😬

“Sorry, you’re too lonely to take. I’ll getcha the moment you find a modicum of happiness with another human being, I promise. I got you boo!”

I knew there was a mechanism but not the name for it! Thank you!

I find myself wondering if you can stop payment on your credit card? You’ve attempted to work with the company, so I assume that meets the cc provider requirement of attempting to resolve. Not sure, but worth a shot

Alternative pro tip: forget to go to the gym, have towel

Second on Niagara. Great integration and flow, I paid for the lifetime version. Moved back to regular android for now but it’s waiting in my app drawer for my inevitable return

From a Linux beginner: I switched from mac with 0 knowledge of Linux. Did some searching, found Ubuntu Budgie, haven’t switched since. I bring it up cuz I was specifically looking for something that looked Mac similar, and it came up. It’s not as Mac as I originally thought, but I find it pretty approachable so I figured I’d share.
I think some more advanced users have issues with Ubuntu, I’ll leave them to comment. There may also be better options for Mac feel, perhaps those mentioned. For me, this was Mac enough I haven’t switched away and I haven’t gone back. Happy searching! :)

Year after:
Breaking: Android will now release you twice a year.
There’s a cognitive offloading effect that happens with AI. I don’t know if it’s been scientifically validated yet, but anecdotally the speed, perceived accuracy and authoritative packaging makes AI easy to trust. A reasonable person could input a “help me evaluate this situation”, and an AI would offer a reasonable-adjacent response. It falls to the user to evaluate the quality of the response, and most ppl are not aware of this caveat. AI is a great tool for situational overviews and perceptive blind spots, but the user is and always should be the final arbiter.
Based solely on the info you shared, your father may not be declining, he may be a victim of being an average AI user.
Is his cognition failing elsewhere? Is he doing things that make no sense to someone operating at a normal capacity? Human aging is incredibly complex, and ailing appears differently for everyone. Don’t let a complex tool like non-expert AI usage define your perception of your father. It’s a probabilistic algorithm, eminently less complex than the human mind
