I doubt they’d mark non-dangerous, buried by the lowest bidder, no paperwork fiber cables. But you never know.
I wholeheartedly agree. These are not the class of people to be vilifying.
Ehhhh, zoning is super important. Vilifying someone by calling them “rich homeowners” is pretty weak.
Grocery delivery service sounds expensive… but I don’t know where you live.
I was going to recommend never keeping a balance in Venmo or the like, but understand sometimes waiting a few days for it to transfer to your bank can make things difficult.
Not trying to lay blame, but doesn’t Venmo ask where you want the money to come from every time you send money? They don’t know your bank balance…
Overdraft fees are evil. Some banks will even clear transactions to result in the most overdrafts without regard to which order the transactions took place. For example if there are two transactions, one for $100 and one for $5, and account balance of $50, they’ll purposely clear the $100 transaction first so both transactions trigger overdraft fees. They could clear the $5 first so only the $100 transaction triggers a fee, but nope.
Also, if this is your first overdraft you might have luck calling the bank and asking for forgiveness. I did that once in college and they refunded the overdraft fees.
I used to have a Jeep Liberty. It was an '06 and lasted me until '20 when I replaced it with something not made by Stellantis.
Anyway, that car had a history of stuff breaking. I did a vast majority of the fixes myself, including random sensors here and there, the heater core, and even the head gasket (what a pain).
I had to drive that car 3/4 across the country for work (with no cruise control), and knew I’d be keeping that car there for 6 months or so. Knowing something would probably break, I loaded most of my tools in the back while I was packing.
Sure enough, about 3 days before I was supposed to drive it 24 hours back home, the water pump failed. I had a little bit of advance notice, but it took me a couple of days to diagnose what the noise was.
I changed the water pump in the driveway of the house I was staying at, and had all of the tools I needed. It was both glorious and sucky at the same time.
I have Frigate running with a reverse proxy, a coral, etc. I just use the internal Intel GPU on my CPU and it works with a 1080p and a not-quite-4k stream (4MP maybe?). It’s no sweat for the hardware.
GPU is only used to detect motion, and you can even configure a lower resolution sub-stream from your cameras to reduce that load, but I don’t think you’ll need to.
Once motion is detected, Frigate fires up the coral to determine what is there. A car, dog, person, etc.
I have everything get recorded with no processing to a single WD Purple, the biggest I could afford. It holds months of video before rewriting over old stuff.
I have Amcrest cameras which are rebranded Dahua I think. I’m relatively happy with them, but I’ve always dreamed of owning Axis cameras, though they are a bit pricey. My cameras are on a VLAN that can’t access the internet.
Hope that helps.
I’m not an expert, but I think we need more information.
We went through this about 6 months ago. It was a pretty rapid decline for our dog and it was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever made, but I had to pull over on the way home because the tears were making my vision blurry.
I got a new RC airplane. A SIG Kadet LT-40 ARF (Almost Ready to Fly). It’s a trainer with a 70" wingspan (~1.8 meters)
A lot of RC airplanes these days come ready to go… almost everything is pre-installed including the electric motor, ESC (electronic speed controller), servos, control surface hinges, you name it. The problem is they’re all made out of styrofoam, and while they work and fly well enough, they don’t appeal to me as much as a balsa and plywood model where you pick all of the components yourself.
To me it’s like the difference between buying a prebuilt computer that comes with Windows on it vs building my own computer.
This one is an ARF, which means the major components are pre-built, but there is some final gluing and assembly to do.
The Kadet LT-40 is a trainer, and I only got it so I can teach other people how to fly should the need arise. All in, I’ve spent about $950 on it. I bought good quality stuff which increases the cost, plus I even bought a 2nd transmitter to use as a buddy box during training. The student will use one transmitter, and I’ll have my transmitter in hand ready to take over before they crash.
With cheaper components I could have reduced the cost by $200 at least. To me it’s worth the extra in order to have stuff that I know is good quality.
Was it worth it? I think it will be, yes. I’ve been flying RC planes on and off for 20 years, and even if I don’t have any students, this will be fun for me to fly.
I’ve never been to Turkey or South Africa, and I’ve only ever been to an airport in Egypt so that’s not a fair assessment.
I can say, however, that my overall worldview makes those places unappealing to me compared to Southeast Asia.
Yeah, I love the Kadet. SIG was inactive for a long time but just restarted operations so you can buy a lot of their classic kits and ARFs on their website again.
I had a Kadet LT-40 kit that I built when I was in high school, but I stopped when I got to the step of covering it, so it never got finished. So this model has some nostalgia for me. It’ll be electric and have plenty of power, so I imagine even an intermediate pilot like myself can still have fun with it.
I worked there, yes.
I lived in Hanoi Vietnam for just over a year, but that was 15 years ago. It was incredible. It’s a lovely place with lovely people and amazing food. It’s not without it’s problems (no freedom of press/speach, relatively poor air quality, etc.), but overall it was a nice place to live.
That does indeed look a little too squishy!
This one’s a 74" Extreme Flight Laser. It’s a blast. It was a busy day at the field but I got 3 flights in today.
I also have an E-Flight Ultimate 3D for days I don’t want to mess with the big noisy gas airplane.
I’ve always wanted a trainer with a buddy box to teach other people how to fly, and got a SIG Kadet LT-40 ARF in the mail today. I have a young one who’s too young to fly it, but he’s pretty excited to help put it together.
My RC airplane had a mechanical failure the last time I flew it. The throttle servo stopped working. I ordered a new servo and installed it yesterday. I also updated the firmware on my transmitter and receiver (FrSky X18SE and FrSky Archer Plus SR10+ respectively). The firmware update made it so I had to reset some of the control limits, but it’s all back to normal now.
Nice weather today so I’m heading to the field to test it all out.
Sounds good to me.
Yeah, both are fine. I switched away from KeePass because I was using Dropbox to take care of device sync, and it just didn’t feel right. Switching to Bitwarden was awesome for me because I self host it (Vaultwarden). It’s only accessible inside my home network, so mobile devices use a cached copy. If I need to add a new entry while away from home I can connect via VPN.
