Grow the f up.

No, it isn’t disrespectful to the previous actor for a new actor to play the character. I’d rather new actors than cgi.

It especially shouldn’t be a problem if the new work is a remake. I can see being taken aback by a character being recast within the same series, but a remake is a clean slate with a new cast. Enough with the attitude that nobody should ever play a certain character again.

Do you know that before we recorded stuff, we had centuries of actors exclusively acting on stage? And yeah, plays had and still have new casts of actors play roles that were previously played by other actors. This is normal.

Or maybe they could make new fucking movies instead of everything being an inferior remake. Film is not stage.

      Hey, sometimes it’s not inferior!

… still agree with the general sentiment, though… “safe bets” are exactly why so many fucking capitalist enterprises fail if the greed doesn’t directly kill them.

Just look at Disney and their current floundering. Sure, it’ll be a long spiral downward for a billions and billions of dollars corp, but that doesn’t magically erase the spiral.

I mean, most of the time, I feel that the expression is just an hyperbole to express how good one actor performance was.

But indeed, it’s silly when people get genuinely mad at an actor taking up a role.

I know it’s practically cliche to mention by now, but seriously, look at The Joker.

Several iconic performances have been given over the years.

Sure, someone else couldn’t play the exact same version, but different portrayals can still be spectacular.

    Actors aren’t getting younger.

However, I would prefer the new cast of a series to look very alike the old cast, so one could better picture the role as a person, instead of like James Bond as an abstract British concept of recklessness in a tuxedo.
