We just said goodbye to our almost 14 year old Tamaskan Dog yesterday. His name was Dokken, and he was our foundation. We are beyond devastated, but we have some small solace that we prevented him from a lot of suffering, and we got to spend his last moments with him telling him how much he meant to us, how much joy he brought not to just us but dozens, if not hundreds, of people he’s met over the years.
It also helps that we brought home a puppy a few years ago, who Dokken helped us raise and socialize. And that puppy was able to visit Dokken in the hospital one last time, and he was able to be with us in the room after Dokken had passed, so he had an opportunity for closure about why he’ll never see his big brother again.
Please hug or pet or otherwise give your dogs a little extra love for him. Cherish every second you have with them.
