So far, I am enjoying PieFed.social and there are features on it I wish I had before. Originally, I joined KBin.social but KBin ended up being abandoned because the owner had health issues. So I moved to both MBin and Lemmy. Things were going good for a while, but, sometimes I would unintentionally attract the ire of antagonizing users from certain instances. This is not my first account in the fediverse, this is probably my 8th or 9th go at this.

I would last about 1 - 2 months at most before I ended up deleting the account because of the toxicity I was facing from a handful of users. I would get tired of having to individually block them whenever they came up, because they were usually from about a couple of instances that just seemed to have the most toxic users from. Least from experience.

PieFed at least gives me the ability to block entire instances, which is crazy to me. I don’t mean to say that everyone is a bad apple from X instance, I’m not going to talk of what they are. It’s just, there were enough bad apples to where I warranted myself in blocking that instance because they’ve given me the most trouble and ruined my experiences numerous times in having a nice, engaging and healthy time on the fediverse.

I used to wish I could block a specific instance. I used to think everyone on this instance was a troll. I’ve seen more of their people, and I no longer feel that’s the case. I’m not sure my Lemmy experience would be better without this instance, though I don’t think they are actively making it better by not being blocked. They just… are.

I really only block people who harass me (multiple rude messages) and who exclusively post stuff I don’t like to see. I browse /all exclusively, so I see a lot of stuff and thus, block a lot of communities. But sometimes people go from communities dedicated to things I don’t like to see, into more general communities to, I guess recruit? I dunno. So I block them. It’s nothing personal, they might be lovely people IRL, but their main game is posting stuff I don’t wanna see, so I just hit block. (I often wish they don’t know I did it because I try not to spread negativity. Though I think we all do a little of that from time to time, I try to be conscious of the energy I’m putting out there.)

I only heard about PieFed after I joined up, but I hear the instance I use is going to offer (or has offered?) a PieFed instance. Maybe someday I’ll look into switching.
