Princess Diana came from an extremely wealthy family, but Camilla also comes from a very wealthy family too, so I don’t understand why the royals wanted him to marry Diana and not Camilla. I could understand if Camilla came from a middle-class family, but she didn’t.
She didn’t pass the pencil test
First, Camille was more “experienced” compared to Diana, and at the time that taint wasn’t seen being fit for a queen mother. There was also never a time when they were both single, leading to possible scandal as one would need to leave their partner for the other.
Second, the question never really was asked until Charles and Diana’s marriage was falling apart. This was a major black eye for the royal family and marrying a divorced spouse had caused a king to resign in Elizabeth’s lifetime, making her very sensitive to the perception of divorce in the public eye.
Same reason my Dad didn’t want me to marry my wife I guess: Mommy didn’t like her.
The royal family is like all families: it’s fucked up. It’s just that this one is royally fucked up.
She was married.
Camilla was considered to have been more “around”. The palace, not necessarily the Queen, found that to be abhorrent.
She was divorced. Everybody knows that God doesn’t like divorced women.
