Karma is absolutely worthless and anyone who says “but i have 10k followers on [site]!” is very embarrassing.

Yeah and a credit score in the west literally affects what jobs you can get, where you can live, what car you can drive, lol.
You can’t leverage reddit karma for anything so probably not. It’s more like weight values for a neural network, now that reddit is just a data library for chatbots
I can’t think of a time I ever looked up someone’s account karma. Maybe there was a time or two I noticed it was discordant with their level of activity.
Karma on a post takes up some of the role nonverbal signals have IRL, and Lemmy separating out up and downvotes is an improvement.

I am not sure what you mean by social credit. Now with that said, I have never considered any posters karma score on reddit.
If I see someone with a lot of karma on Reddit, all I think is “wow, they must spend a lot of time on Reddit”
“Credit” implies something you can borrow against—I’m not sure what that would mean in the context of social media.
