If there was an AI model that ran locally on a PC for basic things and cloud sourced computer power for more complex tasks, all of these data centers would become obsolete in an instant. All of the invested capital and materials wasted in a flash.

    Yes, that exists now using BOINC.

    We used to install and connect to a university hosted lab program (protein folding, Extraterrestrial data, etc) it would download packages of data to compute and auto upload when finished. You could see in the project how many users were logged in and crunching.

    It seemed to drop off with Ai and centralized servers in recent years where no projects were available to assist with. :(
