I mean, is courtroom attendance mandatory when given a summons? What are the repercussions for failing to turn up during the appointed date and time? I know that they have Voir Dire and names of American citizens are selected randomly from the electoral roll (the same one used for federal elections on selecting a new president in office) unless you renounced US citizenship which rescinds both your right to vote and potential jury duty.

More recently I got one and kinda wanted to go, but a week prior had to call a number. Called and they didn’t need any jurors that week at all. If I’d ignored the letter from the very beginning it would have been the exact same result. There was no record if I’d called or not. There would have been no penalty for ignoring the letter.
But there are many jurisdictions, and jury duty can be for federal, state, county, probably more. Each one with slightly different procedures.
i was called for federal and city/state one year at the same time. luckily i dint go to the federal one, and it automatic cancels the state one too.
