I mean, is courtroom attendance mandatory when given a summons? What are the repercussions for failing to turn up during the appointed date and time? I know that they have Voir Dire and names of American citizens are selected randomly from the electoral roll (the same one used for federal elections on selecting a new president in office) unless you renounced US citizenship which rescinds both your right to vote and potential jury duty.

I’ve gotten a summons almost every year. Most of the time I just call in a few times and don’t have to report; most of the times I do need to report in, I end up sitting in jury pool room for half a day and then going home. Once I was selected as an alternate juror; I spent a few weeks listening to testimony with the regular jurors, but wasn’t needed for the deliberations or verdict.
