Just blocked lemmy.ml from my Lemmy account, and I swear to god it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done on this platform. My homepage feels actually clean now.
For the past few months I’d been seeing a lot of tankie posting and pretty much far-left propaganda on my feed. It got tiring enough that I finally checked my blocked-user list, and realized pretty much everyone I’d blocked was from lemmy.ml. So I just blocked the whole instance instead.
Saying this as someone who considers themselves a leftist: I used to think Lemmy itself was an echo chamber. Turns out lemmy.ml was the problem the entire time. Probably the reason I tolerated it for so long is that I agreed with a lot of what they posted, but like an oversaturated meme, I’d had enough. Browsing the platform was starting to feel way too tiring instead of fun, which defeats the point of being here in the first place.
The breaking point was seeing some dude post a “meme” implying North Korea and China are basically communist utopias and that the West sucks. I mean, the West does suck, but come on - you’re saying North Korea is the ideal the West should strive for? What the hell…

You’ve never seen any of the tankies say that it was all fabricated and that none of it ever happened? You must have missed WhatWouldKarlDo’s comment that says
"> To deny the events that unfolded at Tiananmen Square is like denying that humans have been to the moon. It’s an unfounded, in fact, disprovable conspiracy theory.
So prove it to us then. All you’re doing right now is scolding us for being insane conspiracy theorists. I’ve never seen any evidence that anything happened at tiananmen square. Reports from people who were actually there all say that there was no massacre
The US has a very long history of lying about its enemies. There are plenty of declassified CIA docs that talk about what lies to tell the media. Why is this one different?"
There’s a lot more but it is tiring scouring through all the bullshit in those .ml communities to point more of them out. they will say any deaths were radical insurgents that were illegally protesting and funded by the CIA to sow dissent. Its all crazy ass bullshit.
My country kills people all the time police brutality is rampant here and it is super fucked up that our government allows it to happen. See how easy that is, to be honest about events? No need for blaming some foreign league of armed militants, or KGB funded psyop bullshit.
“As for using Wikipedia, it’s frequently biased against socialist states, so when it’s forced even by its own biases to admit that there isn’t hard evidence of something, it’s noteworthy.”
So you’re saying when it fits the narrative you agree with its ok to use but any other time its biased and chauvinist. Makes sense.
And how do you feel about Russia? Would you move there, too? You guys defend it a lot. They say homosexuality doesn’t exist there maybe you could be the first ones! If it is such a welcoming place, make the change.
And yes I think it is absolutely, 100% both hilarious and telling that none of you live in any of those places. All capitalist countries across the board but always plans to totally move soon.
To be honest I don’t rely on Wikipedia much at all. However, when I am making a point and Wikipedia even agrees with me, it’s enormously effective because it means that even those normally biased against socialism agree with the claims I make. This isn’t a particularly difficult idea to grasp, if they are biased against something but don’t have the evidence to back up someone’s anti-socialist claims, it means that no credible evidence exists, period, for said anti-socialist claims.
I have no idea what your incoherent rant about Russia is meant to imply. It’s a homophobic, capitalist country governed by reactionary nationalists. Defending Russia’s stance against western imperialism is not the same as saying Russia is a socially progressive and good country to live in, this isn’t a difficult concept to grasp either. Russia is similar to Iran in that communists don’t support their domestic policy, while supporting largely their foreign policy.
I organize with a communist party where I live. I actively work to bring about socialism where I live. I’d love to move to China, except it’s enormously difficult and would uproot the lives of myself and my family. Why is this a difficult concept to grasp for you?
