Dans le cadre des débats concernant le projet de loi finances 2027, l'Assemblée nationale a voté en faveur d'un amendement destiné à imposer une taxe de 0,055 euro par gigaoctet consommé par foyer.

        I host a community for a FOSS game. We’re not in France, so this doesn’t affect me. But if this shit spread, this could cause me problems. I’d have to open up for donations.

        Better to tax the rich instead of adding more tax to we who are already poor.

        They will just pass it down to customers but people who host their own sites won’t be able to anymore so you are basically shutting down a lot of free access

          Well, I am not French so I am using Firefox translate for the draft text and also eyeing the original words with a dictionary a little bit, BUT:

          I wonder if a single person is a “group”.

          The collection {…} includes the identity of the issuing company, its registration number with the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority and the amount of data transmitted over the period considered.

          What registration number with the IANA? If it’s a single IP (at least v4), it may just belong to an ISP and not another person or company, and then be rotated between owners. If it’s an ASN, you probably don’t have one. Besides, most kids these days use VPSes and 30 proxies (going to suck for those who don’t if everything else isn’t true though). Also going to suck if the hosting providers just raise prices in France, although some take crypto and wouldn’t really be sure where you are from in that case.

          “company” was translated from “l’entreprise”, too. If it were actually only data about companies being collected, there’s would be no bill to be passed to “people who host their own sites”. I guess it’s possible for the actual de-facto implementation to be some malicious compliance piece of shit that includes regular people, we will have to see about that.
