  • Keeping their options open. Ive had many conversations with people who have a long term relationship but they never married and they insist that it’s exactly the same ‘just without a piece of paper’.

    No, it’s not.

That piece of paper isn’t the only thing that’s different. The difference is being 99% committed or 100% committed and it’s “only” 1% difference but that 1% is a huge difference.

100% committed means I’m not scared to marry you because I want to be with you the rest of my life. That means I’m here, I’m 100% for you and no one else no matter what happens. Not ‘til the feeling goes away’, not ‘til you dont turn me on anymore’, not ‘til someone else intrigues me more’, not 'til you dont look like you did when I met you, not ‘til you are more work that I thought you’d be’, not ‘til you get sick’, not ‘til we’re not having fun anymore’… I’m here TIL I DIE, come hell or high water, good times or bad. 100% committed.

And when you find that kind of commitment, a relationship finds its groove and you can start to relax and really enjoy life together. Because you know your spouse has no plans, no desire, not even any thought of going elsewhere. THAT’S what makes marriage and 100% commitment the most fulfilling and most satisfying relationship.

  • Yes Im in western Canada.

That situation in Europe would drive me bonkers. Im a firm believer in not hiring people to do things I can learn to do myself. I would hate being forced to hire people just because they have access to the paperwork that I dont.

We do have something similar to the paesaggistica, which are particularly intrusive if you own a condominium apartment. It can get quite ludicrous as they have an elected board who can make up whatever rules they like and impose fines. Ive heard of people being fined for having a flower box on their outside patio, or for hanging up Christmas lights before a set date because its against the condo rules. Just craziness.

  • Thanks. Ive actually been planning this for 10 years and have had half the tiny house sitting on a trailer in my yard for that long. Just couldn’t find the right place to put it where the town council would be open to the idea. Attitudes are finally changing though and the idea of tiny homes is becoming acceptable in many more Canadian cities.

Yeah you’re right about taking one step at a time. Thats a good point. I was looking at the chart for determining the size of built up beam I need to put under the house and its clear as mud. And the silly measurements are given in mm which is lovely except that no one goes into a lumber store and asks for a 38 x 184 board. Thats a 2x8. Dont know why they dont just call it a 2x8. Silly.

I couldn’t figure out the right size, so I put the link to the chart into ChatGPT and gave it my span and asked it to interpret the chart and tada! It figured out that a beam of three 2x8’s nailed together is what I need to pass code. Nice.

  • Well, they do have considerably more on a motorcycle than a bike. First your helmet is DOT approved and very good for keeping the brain matter inside the brain cavity (Im living proof). Riding gear is not only wind/water proof but the good stuff has reinforced protection over your hands, your backbone and your elbows and knees and is rip proof. If you want to go all in there are now jackets or vests that have built in air bags to cushion you and the Honda Goldwing even has a built in airbag.

Its not perfect but there are tons of videos of motorcycle racers falling at 200 kph+ and sliding across the ground, and just walking away without a scratch. Like this guy who lost his brakes at over 200 kph: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0J9iXzeRNc&t=49s

  • Oh man, you’re far crankier than I am lol.

I didnt say I had NO practice. Ive been riding bicycle my whole life, including a recumbent two wheeler which takes considerably more balance and practice than a regular bike. And Ive had a tiny mini bike for trail riding for years. But this is getting back on the big stallion, a highway loving BMW R1100R. And it feels GREAT!

But even without that, your assertion that I have a death wish (you do understand creative writing, dont you?) or that Im endangering the public is ludicrous. In a motorcycle accident its almost ALWAYS the bike rider who gets injured. I’M the one at risk. Im riding cautiously not recklessly.

If you’re worried about riders, you should caution the 19 year olds who tend to be the ones on the 150 hp ‘crotch rockets’. All that power, testosterone and the need to impress their equally new riding friends or their girlfriend inevitably leads to trouble. Us senior riders are far more sedate.
