Hello. So, my friend just sent me a message about something they’ve seen. There was someone who was stealing people’s DeviantArt usernames to sign up on other sites, and 5 months ago, they posted these drawings on an account that was named after someone on DeviantArt who had a very similar style:

This person made a post on their main account 26 days ago where they showed some new art. This is what that art looked like:

Another recent piece of art they posted from less than 5 months ago:

More new art from them:

When my friend confronted them for this, they responded with “I changed mediums” to explain why the more recent art looks so different from 5 months ago and asked my friend to “find the original if you think it’s stolen”, but before they said that, they had lied about not deliberately taking people’s usernames. The real person’s account didn’t have those exact three topmost drawings, but did have a very similar style and level of professionalism to the art.

I am not an artist, so it’d be preferable if any artists could chime in on this and whether a change of mediums would explain the differences or if this is bonafide art theft.

TL;DR the person who uploaded the first 3 drawings is saying them changing mediums is why their new art doesn’t look as good. Is this plausible?

The bottom right “art” in green is pure schizoposting, the “DMs from the divine” and then walls of text are typical of degenerative schizophrenia.

I’m sorry OP, they might be an art thief, they might be insane, maybe both.

Seems like a bit too much progress for a few months.

They went from middle school to art school overnight.

My first guess was that the “medium change” was using AI, but, the new stuff isn’t THAT good, and aside from some missing fingers, AI would probably have made that girl punching a tree better than it is.

Oh wait. I think I had it backwards. Are you telling me they went from the full color pictures TO the line drawings?

If that’s the case, I have no idea what’s going on here.

It’s the opposite, their newer art doesn’t look as good as the art that was posted 5 months ago on an account that was named after a person on DeviantArt who had a very similar style. I found another account they post art on and their most recent art looks like this, nothing like the top three.

They’re saying they changed mediums and that’s why their new art looks so different compared to their old art 5 months ago (the top 3 drawings).

Hmm, you’re right! I definitely remember this picture posted somewhere maybe like 3-4 days ago?

I didn’t, no. My friend told me that this person has an account on Lemmy but I’m not going to drop names in case it’s against the rules.

Maybe Google reverse image search helps? Or you just report them and let someone else check on this.

There’s no point to reporting, DeviantArt enables its users to repost and even claim copyright on other people’s art. The only true option for reporting is finding the original artist and convincing them to make a DMCA claim.
