Let’s face it folks – if you’ve gotta live in a country going through chaos, you might as well have a bit of fun on the way down. One of the few things that perks me up each morning is seeing headlines like “Trump Supporters Worried About Losing Their Federal Jobs” or “Republican Voters Worried They Might Not Get Their Social Security Checks”. Well folks, when Trump was promising chaos in the run-up to the election, this is what he was talking about. All these federal departments getting turned over and eviscerated is exactly what he said he’d do. Supposedly, this is what you all wanted!
If you’re a multi-millionaire and you voted for Trump, I get it. It seems like a really good idea. If you’re working class, or even crazier, dependent on government aid, and you voted for Trump, holy crap… you were swindled.
I hope eventually our country gets back on the track to being sane. It’s a shame that it’s much, much, much easier to tear down things than it is to create them. I look forward to the mid-terms and I hope the Democrats get their heads out of their asses, because we could really use the help. In the meantime, I’ll be drinking up all those delicious “Trump supporter tears” and not feeling bad at all.
I’m struggling to believe these articles are anything but pandering to the left. I struggle to believe there’s any significant number of conservatives actually having real second thoughts.
I mean during COVID you had conservatives literally claiming COVID was no big deal as they died. I think that was when I understood just how far gone these people could be. They will happily drink the Kool aid no matter the personal cost to themselves.
So losing their jobs is questionable as to whether or not it’s going to actually result in a different mindset, rather than some fleeting complaints that are forgotten by the next election cycle.
Trump’s popularity is lower than any President at this point in their presidency. I think there are a lot of “moderates” and uninformed voters who are starting to regret their choice.
Once he starts axing Medicare/medicare and going after social security and other popular programs it is only going to get worse.
Just remember there will be roughly 20 to 30 percent who are hard core MAGA who will never change their minds no matter how bad it gets.
If someone was uninformed and misinformed enough to think voting for Trump was even remotely in their own self-interest in the first place, then there is almost no disaster Trump can cause that will not be instantly reframed as “just imagine how much worse it would be under Dems!”
Dying of COVID? Well at least you’re not dying from forced vaccination!
Layoffs due to tariffs? LOL what’s a tariff?
Can’t get benefits you need to survive? Well clearly the Welfare Queens left him no choice! It’s their fault!
It’s no coincidence that Trump in particular and Republicans in general relentlessly attack education and free information. They’ve already brainwashed enough of the population to win elections, and they want to make sure the general population has no way out of that hole. This is why they’re attacking Wikipedia and Internet Archive. This is why Project 2025’s first order of business is to eliminate the Department of Education. This is why Musk bought fucking Twitter in the first place, most likely. This is why they’re now trying to repeal Section 230 (with the help of some Judas Dems), so they can bully any web site into taking down any information they don’t like.
The information apocalypse is upon us.
I live in Missouri. Anecdotally, there are a lot of trumpers/nazis who used to be real proud of that fact who are real fucking quiet about it as of the last few weeks.
So something is making it through. Can’t say as of yet that it’s making it as far as ‘real second thoughts’ but they are def embarrassed right now.
I’m struggling to believe these articles are anything but pandering to the left.
There’s not exactly any good news to go around, so chuckling at the misfortunes of others is all we have. I’m very aware I’m on the same sinking ship. My only hope is to stay alive while this happens and hopefully still be on board when the holes are patched.
No. It makes me relieved that I am not an American. Most Americans did not vote for Trump, so I just feel sorry and genuinely worried for the majority of Americans who now have to put up with the outcome of a vocal minority’s votes for the next 4 years. People are already dying over this which is very upsetting.
No, dude. People are going to die over this. A lot of people.
Democrats are complicit at best, and each day they seem more like collaborators. They won’t save us from fascism because they don’t want to.
We’re fucked beyond belief, and it’s going to take a long time for people to realize how badly.
Yeah, all the news is just exhausting. Every day is some new bullshit from Musk/Trump flagrantly doing things to harm people and no one with any power is trying to do anything about it. People I care about have already lost their jobs and others are very concerned about their future. Trump’s supporters are hateful morons but them getting hurt too doesn’t make up for the rest of us suffering. There is a very real possibility that a lot of us never get out of the hole Musk and Trump are digging. Even if we do we’ll have lost years of our lives to them. Ridiculing people who’ve made the terrible decision to support them isn’t helping anything.
They’ve always been collaborators, fascism can’t rise to the surface without a liberal party enabling it. Voters have the delusion that their security is only an election away so they will never rise up against the system they benefit so much from.
I understand the appeal of this, but it’s definitely not healthy or helpful. I have to assume that most of these “swindled” people were low-information voters. Generally, people have more important things to do than keep track of what their representatives are doing. I assume they saw nothing more than, “democrats are in charge, and inflation is a huge issue.”, and conservative news was happy to play up that angle without discussing why inflation is a problem. The democrats’ message of “it’s not as bad as you think it is/look at how much we’ve accomplished/we’re still fixing it” wasn’t very cohesive and didn’t really resonate with people, either.
I don’t know what the appropriate response is. Empathy is hard. You don’t have to forgive them for electing a fascist, wanna-be dictator, but you do have to give them “an out”. No one likes to eat crow, so if they can’t find a way to save face, they’re just going to double down, no matter how much it hurts everyone. So far, “how was I supposed to know?” is the closest thing I’ve seen to a way to avoid embarrassment, so I think we’re going to have to let them have that one.
… but you do have to give them “an out”.
There is a path to redemption. It’s there for anyone who wants to take it.
So far, “how was I supposed to know?” is the closest thing I’ve seen to a way to avoid embarrassment, so I think we’re going to have to let them have that one.
Nope. That’s not it. “You were supposed to know” because it was fucking obvious to anyone who paid even a little attention. Be embarrassed about that.
Nope. That’s not it. “You were supposed to know” because it was fucking obvious to anyone who paid even a little attention. Be embarrassed about that.
They don’t know enough about anything to even be able to be embarrassed, and that’s the whole fucking problem.
There was that woman who refused Little t’s J6 pardon, she’s redeemed. It’s not impossible.
Point being, if you want to take that path to redemption, it’s going to mean swallowing your pride, admitting your mistake, and demonstrating that you can do better.
Right, but so far, those who change are strictly in the minority group of these people.
I don’t know what the appropriate response is. Empathy is hard.
Sorry, my tank is empty from the constant bullshit during COVID. Can’t wear a mask to help prevent the immunocomprised? Well, here’s your FREEDOM. It’s finally here. I hope they get what they were wishing for. All those red states wishing us ill while the blue states supported them with our tax dollars. No more! Don’t wan’t FEMA? Wish granted! Good luck on those hurricanes!
I have to assume that most of these “swindled” people were low-information voters
I’m sorry, if you’re a low information voter in the information age, you are getting what you deserve. How many of these people share links on Facebook with memes that can be disproven with a 5 minute visit to the library? This is the “science is fake” crowd I’m talking about. They are constantly surrounded by information and turn up their nose at it. They are proud to be ignorant. Well, there’s a real cost to being ignorant, and that cost is being swindled by con-men. The very same con-men will blame things on Biden, and I’m sure not 100% of the voters will wake up, but they didn’t want to listen before and they made this bed. Now we ALL have to lie in it.
Liberals that accepted and denied a genocide occuring in Gaza have the nerve to call other people low information.
No, I am actually just saddened by it. I know people voted for him and it’s easy to say they deserved it, but the misery caused by his politics goes so profoundly deep into a society that already have so many people struggling, that I just find it depressing.
Sadly I only get Schaden, but no Freude from the news😮💨
“I look forward to the mid-terms and I hope the Democrats get their heads out of their asses, because we could really use the help.”
I have no faith whatsoever that they’re going to win anything. The political persecution will be in full swing before hand and we’ll be having article after article of “xyz Democrat being investigated for (insert excuse here)”
It’s going to be Hillarys emails all over again except this time there won’t even be a grain of truth behind it. I’m honestly expecting a “red wave”
No, it will get very ugly before there is any kind or normalcy again. Many people will needlessly die because of this all. Lives being in jeopardy due to the ego of a mad king is nothing new, but the magnitude of which it can affect nowadays…
I don’t know if this is relevant, but I and many others feel basically this way about Americans as a whole. Gonna be laughing at (or at least not crying too much for) y’all as we’re all drafted into WWIII.
As a US citizen this is deeply relevant.
Our government has been swinging its dick around worldwide for decades absolutely fucking shit up while American citizens blithely move along in ignorance while it’s all happening and claiming we spread “freedom” and “democracy” when we have never done any such thing. We, through our government, have used Economic Shock Treatment to dominate and control.
It’s literally not the rest of the world’s job to separate us into “good Americans” versus “bad Americans.” The Ugly American never left.
Everything happening here will have knock-on effects for the rest of the world. It’s up to us to clean up our own damn mess.
I am waiting for US refugees to be shocked at how few countries will want to take us in. They don’t have the time, money, or willingness to sort through the refugees only looking for the good ones.
Especially because the first people to demand to be helped in this country are always the ones who voted to not get help to begin with. They vote against their own needs endlessly and nobody wants to risk bringing in such selfish unstable people. Easier to just say “No American refugees accepted” since the Trumpers will literally be the first to run away because they can’t face reality or accept their own responsibility in the current reality. They are always the first to run from the consequences of their own actions. Facing what they’ve done would make them reckon with the idea that they’re not a good person, and that kind of self-reflection would cause Ego Death in them, so they avoid it at all costs.
A little, but in the opposite way from what OP is describing.
I saw a second Trump term coming from a mile away. Not because I had any insider insight, but because I would have been genuinely amazed if he didn’t win and I place the majority of the blame for his victory on the left. They had four years to course-correct, but instead, they doubled down on the very things that made them lose the first time. So even though I didn’t want him to win, I can at least take some satisfaction in the fact that the people responsible for it are now pissed and got exactly what was coming to them. Their refusal to give an inch made them lose everything.
Grand visions of a utopian future are meaningless if you can’t even win an election. Trump’s ad campaign summed up perfectly where the left went wrong: “Kamala is for they/them - Trump is for you.”
I think it’s difficult to avoid feeling that way. Part of me feels bad about it because I know the other side would be laughing their asses off if we were the ones feeling betrayed. But now is not the time to gloat, there’s too much we have to do to fight this as best we can.
Even if we can shake trump and the maga party and head back towards the road to normality. We aren’t going to get rid of musk and other like minded billionaires from interfering with politics for a long, long time. At least not using legal means.
This is the exact same line of thinking trumpets have…
Where they’re fine the country is being destroyed because it hurts people they don’t like.
The wealthy are spending a shit ton of money to ensure that’s the line of thinking of most Americans, they won’t the majority fractured and focused on hurting each other so we don’t unite and fight the wealthy.
I 100% get what you’re feeling, but it’s what the people who are really the problem want us to think.
I’m also pretty sure your post is getting removed
I’m also pretty sure your post is getting removed
For what?
You’re less asking a real question and more asking a rhetorical question and then going on a spiel about it.
It might stay up. But lots of posts like this (especially political ones) seem to get removed.
The question isn’t rhetorical. I want to know if I’m the only one getting a chuckle out of the really horrible headlines each day. This is a new phenomenon for me and I want to know if others are feeling the same thing. Politics aside, you’d have to admit the USA is a bit more chaotic than years past right now, and that’s not some kind of liberal spin – it’s true.
Cool bro, was just a heads up, you don’t need to convince me.
Oh alright, I thought you were like ringing a bell and saying “WE NEED A MODERATOR HERE!”
I hope the Democrats get their heads out of their asses
All you need to know is this.
I may be in the minority here, but I didn’t think Kamala was THAT unpopular. I still have my suspicions that the elections have massive voter fraud happening. For her to not win ANY of the toss-up states is…interesting to say the least.
We need some new voter integrity protections put into place. Yeah yeah, I get that mentioning that is unpopular with dems, as it’s often equated with voter suppression - but last election cycle we had one black woman who had her voting rights restored get put through the legal wringer on if she was allowed to vote or not; meanwhile I had white folks in The Villages (FL), casting votes for dead people, get caught, and basically nothing happened to them. (Fines, Community Service, no jail time)
Don’t start that shit. We’re better than that.
The facts are she lost and that’s that.
At this point you regroup and hope he does a great job in office and that we all benefit
Better than WHAT? Why is voting integrity something that you people often have such an issue with? Why can’t we use an open source, blockchain verified ledger system that is immutable and unchangeable so that we retain anonymity, and further increase verifiability? Our voting systems shouldn’t be closed-source secretive software controlled by a few elites – The best security is often done in the open, so that everyone can work their best to ensure that it’s secure.
I’m not talking about voterID or any of that bullshit, I’m talking back-end stuff; and the problem that dominion have had with their voting machines, and the fact that nearly every state that used to be a toss-up (Florida, etc) now uses a different vendor than northern states.
Why can’t we use an open source, blockchain verified ledger system that is immutable and unchangeable so that we retain anonymity, and further increase verifiability?
Hoo boy. Our elections are inefficient enough already!
You want to use the blockchain for elections? I can only imagine how efficient that would be…
Just picture it—millions of Americans casting their votes, each one requiring the same energy as a Bitcoin transaction. Since each Bitcoin transaction guzzles about 707.6 kWh of electricity, we’d effectively turn Election Day into a national “let’s black out the power grid” festival. The 2020 U.S. election saw around 159 million votes cast. Multiply that by 707.6 kWh, and suddenly, securing democracy would consume more electricity than Argentina does in a year. Hope you weren’t planning on using your fridge that week.
And let’s not forget the environmental impact. Running a blockchain-based election would pump out millions of tonnes of carbon emissions, all to achieve the technological marvel of… waiting 40 minutes for your vote to get confirmed while some guy with an overclocked mining rig in Kazakhstan decides if democracy is worth the gas fees.
But hey, at least it’s immutable. No take-backsies. Not even if you typo your choice or accidentally vote for “Kanye West” when you meant “write-in candidate.” But that’s a small price to pay for the unparalleled convenience of a system that makes processing a single vote roughly as energy-efficient as powering your house for nearly a month.
Nothing screams cutting-edge innovation quite like requiring the entire country to participate in the world’s largest distributed computing experiment just to count some ballots. Maybe we could throw in some NFTs while we’re at it—“I voted” stickers are so last century.
Spoken exactly like someone who knows absolutely nothing about how blockchains work. Bitcoin is a popular one, but blockchains don’t need to be like this - what you’re spewing is hyperbole and ignorance. Votes aren’t tallied in the way you speak of either - they don’t immediately go into a ledger just because you selected a name, all voting systems have multiple safeguards already to allow multiple opportunities to select different candidates at each point in the step. The last step of registering your vote is when they get added.
Vitriol and ignorance, wonderful combination here.
So which blockchain would you model this on? If my picture is so flawed, paint a better one. If Bitcoin wouldn’t be used for the chain (and it wouldn’t due to the problems I mentioned above) what project and/or protocol do you feel would be a good fit for elections in the US?
For her to not win ANY of the toss-up states is…interesting to say the least.
Seems par for the course to be honest. Well, it’s kind of surprising but with the benefit of hindsight it’s well within the bounds of plausibility. I mean there were two or big issues in this election besides not being Trump: the economy, immigration and Gaza. The Democrats failed on all of them.
I’ve heard it from more than one person that it was a “blowout”. Well, the margins were a lot closer than that, if you ask me. Kamala wasn’t my favorite person on the planet, but for sure, I knew she wouldn’t cause as much chaos as Trump would, and I very much did want her to get in as President. Unfortunately, the less reasonable among us were victorious and now they are getting EXACTLY what they asked for. They just weren’t aware of it at the time. I wish I could say a lot of people will be learning a lesson right now, but they will just continue to blame things on Biden, even as Elon Musk is busy blocking all their Social Security checks.
