Morning glory! Grows easily. Pretty leaves. Pretty blooms. Blooms abundantly. Love 'em!

Gazanias are my favorite. Unpretentious little suns blazing away in the garden. What’s not to like.

Strelitzia reginae, the bird of paradise.

It’s used as a drought-tolerant ornamental here in California.

EDIT: If I get a second choice, Albizia julibrissin, the pink silk tree.

    Wisteria

I love the scent. A building nearby has a giant wall full of these flowers. They look magical when they’re all in bloom.

Lilac. Growing up we had out-of-control, seven-foot-high lilac hedges border two sides of the backyard. Smelling a lilac in bloom brings me right back to the secret forts I’d build beneath their branches.

I have them growing on the southeast side of my house next to the living room windows. I also have a late spring blooming lilac right next to another window so I get some super lovely bursts of scent for several weeks. Glorious.

I do not at all regret planting those, and they do a great job shading the brick from the sun and keeping the house cooler.

    Passionflower.

They grow on a climbing vine and are followed by passionfruit, which is very tasty!

My neighbors in San Diego have the vines all over their fence and they produce tons of fruit. I don’t know what their secret is.

Edit: I do know that there are some that just produce flowers, and no fruit. Maybe you had that type?
