The name is a play on the phrase “bear in mind”, which means to bear (carry) a thought. The next layer is that the character is an actual bear in your mind (has telepathy).
Also a Baron is a title of leader mobility and a Barren mind would be empty, like amnesia.
And amnesia = barren mind
