obv excluding uwp games and hv based cracks(may change in the future,as hv team said they are working on it) from my post bec they dont work. so do all normal game cracks work on linux? ie. denuvo based voices38,empress,and others cracks? steam cracks of goldberg? and others?
i want to hear the experince of people here with pirated gaming on linux.
Yes, but in my experience, its more work to get it to work. Some games will launch immediately, others you will find yourself tweaking proton settings or installing dependencies. On windows every cracked game just launches immediately.
Yes, they all work. 🤦🏼
what games did you test? also how did you run them? im intrested in linux
I use many, goldberg based crack work fine. Online fix work fine too as long as you launch them trough steam with some parameters.
I use most of them in an bottles
There are some extra steps of adding the game steamid to a config file, but you can also use slssteam and just run the game through steam which is much cleaner on steam deck or deck like setups, and you can also use h3adcr-b to manage updates of sls and steam to prevent steam client updates before they are patchable.
Benefits include seamless deck gamemode/big picture experience, easy proton version switching, mods and advanced config work like regular steam install so following guides for such will be easier. Its also an easy setup to use for linux vr which I have tested using wivrn and after the recent update also steamvr to steam link app on quest.
Achievements don’t work out of the box, which is great those concerned about stealth or just dont want them, but by reverting the patched steam api dll to the backup, armageddon repacks change the original .dll to .ag for example, then running slscheevo or similar to generate missing files. There is a standard spot to find the .dll in all the common game engines but you can always search for “steam*.dll”.
Supposedly online also works in a bunch of games but only with other people doing the same thing, with additional titles possible with extra work but I haven’t tested any of this and I don’t know if its different from the usual steam emu online methods.
You can use protondb as a guide to what will and will not work. If it is pirate or original usually doesn’t really matter. You can use lutris to make your life easier. If you download from a site that needs you to install extra programs to run the game, just choose them as if they are the game.exe, run it to install, repeat with all needed programs, then change back to the game.exe and play
If anyone reading this cares, Faugus/UMU for a replacement to Lutris if you’re bothered by Lutris using AI in their project.
I care, thanks for sharing i’ll check that when i need to install windows game in the future !
Pretty much this. ProtonDB already has people telling you which games work on Linux and any issues that you might run into. Pirated or legit isn’t really relevant.
If the original game runs on Linux, sure.
Otherwise if the original game runs on proton/wine/bottles whatever, I guess it depends and you need to try.
My two cents: if the game already run on Linux, doesn’t matter if it’s emulated native or what, will run both original and pirated.
If they are listed as working on protondb they should work. You download them, add them to steam as a non steam game, choose the proton version that works best with the game and play.
If it’s a true crack then as long as the game itself works on linux then the cracked version can. You listed the current exception (as hv bypass is not a type of crack).
