The existing chess community on lemmy.ml/c/chess seems to be dead, moderators are not reachable and is hosted on .ml which is defederated by many instances. Use this community for anything related to chess: news, memes, puzzles, guides, etc.
On a very high level, it is typically heavily auth-left influenced (so pro-China, pro-Russia, anti “western”). In my opinion, many of its communities are also heavily protected to ensure opposing views are removed by aggressive moderation.
This led to a few larger instances blocking it (.world I think is the kargst to have done so) blocking it, so their users cannot access *.ml communities.
**Edit: as many have pointed out, my brain isn’t firing on all cylinders today… Hexbear was the instance it defederated from, not .ml… Sorry for the false info!

Huh? Lemmy.world has not blocked lemmy.ml, nor have (correct me if i’m wrong?) any other large instances.

And I never got the actual reason, where I pointed to actual information and viewed the case from accountable attitude.

Regardless, there are Communities on the main LemmyWorld feed page from that instance, so they probably didn’t block it, and I appreciate that heartfelt… since I do not get why block whole instances with so diverse Communities, where a single post by so infinitely unique and ineffably magnificent people may be of interest of someone else, where both have no idea nor care about these politics, ideology, agitations etc. but just try discovering and contributing whenever and however they can.
imo the reason is pretty clear in the modlog you’re linking to. the ban duration was disproportionate though, so, i just unbanned you. (please do not advocate for the use of telegram in !privacy@lemmy.ml though! lmao)

There’s no trust in the effort and time I would invest there anymore, I am sorry.
Meanwhile, may I ask why do you stand against Telegram as a secure and optimal solution for the majority?
Just to clarify, are you aware Telegram is blocked in Russia by the government, mostly because the former does not want to share data with the government standing for the privacy, if I am not mistaken?

Russia has strengthened and later weakened their restrictions on Telegram various times over the years for reasons which are probably unknowable without insider information. What is clear is that Telegram is absolutely sharing data (which they’ve chosen to design their service such that they can have access to) with various governments at various times; assuming that they never would share any with Russia is nonsensical. The extent to which they willingly share which data with which governments, versus which governments access data without their cooperation (by compromising their servers or coercing their engineers, which gives access to message contents due to their lack of e2ee) is not particularly interesting.
Beyond that, I recommend that you post on !nostupidquestions@lemmy.world or somewhere similar if you need people to explain why telegram is offtopic in communities about privacy technology. (This discussion is very offtopic in this thread so I won’t reply further here. If you really feel the need to argue about the above I recommend you do it in a new thread somewhere it isn’t offtopic; if you tag me maybe i’ll reply there.)

Regardless, perhaps someone else will find the Communities you shared, or “off-topic” mentioned several times relevant and useful, since I didn’t, sorry, being on Lemmy for 4 years now with more than 2 decades on IRC since UnderNet, OFTC, Freenode (now Libera) etc. where I got some social online interaction experience, and where actual specialists could back me up pointing to actual evidence.
Please do consider clarifying at #security on Libera IRC if you ever interested in discussing the security and optimizations of Telegram, including their great ideas as TGS format in 2015-01-02 similar to Lottie (2015-02).
Since, at this point, it feels like you haven’t done a more in-depth research of their encryption backed by public bounties. Unless, you know more than I do, and if so, please do share actual references in addition to the one I did in the message I got banned that stated possible issues with their algorithms back then:
