I’m trying to use Reddit less. I hate venting about another platform, but I needed to talk about this. If I mention that I have signs of a mental illness even ON the sub for people with said disorder, they downvote the crap out of me and others.

I got made fun of for posting artwork with a gay fictional couple cuddling.

If I dare talk about my writing or something that seems to be “dark” to express myself and how I feel, I get downvoted to hell.

I got downvoted for mentioning that I was trans on a TRANS sub.

Reddit is at least 70% bots, and I’m being conservative. What’s human is garbage.

maybe what you posted sucked and people didn’t like it?

people are fickle. you could have posted the same thing at another time and it would have been upvoted.

Without knowing your post its impossible to know why you got downvoted. reddit is much more popular and much more accessible, so of course you’re going to encounter more idiots on there.

Is it possible you were getting downvoted for other reasons?

The examples you gave don’t seem like things that should bother people. Of course, you’ll always get bots trying to manipulate the front page, or miserable people that downvote everything they don’t completely agree with, but if there’s SIGNIFICANTLY more downs than ups, there’s probably something else causing this kind of reaction.

I think it might be worth looking at your posts again with an open mind. It could be unintended tone or phrasing that is causing people to misunderstand your intentions. Without looking at those posts, I have no idea what the problem might be, but it feels like this could be an opportunity to improve your Social Media skills.

I find Lemmy in particular to be very much into using the downvote button for “I disagree” or “That’s not my experience” or “I don’t like this” or “they disagreed with someone who I upvoted”

It is well known that reddit has tons of bots designed to down vote, then weeks or months later they’ll repost the same thing you posted and have their bot army upvote it

Maybe the artwork got downvoted because people thought it wasn’t good, or wasn’t appropriate for the sub

Maybe the comment where you mentioned you’re trans got downvoted if it was seen as not adding to the conversation at hand

I got downvoted for mentioning that I was trans on a TRANS sub.

You know, it sounds like there’s more to it than you’re letting on if you got downvoted in a trans sub. Want to elaborate?

I posted about being potentially bisexual and wanting to not be the “girlfriend” in the relationship with men, so i thought i was exclusively into women.

I may have you beat. I was booted for being accused of being a bot. I laugh about it now but back then I was like wth. Now I go back once in a while and see all the bots then think you got to be fucking kidding me. I’ll never go back.
