“Frogging” sounds like some kind of sex act. Like the evolution of “dogging”
Swallows eat bugs too. We could call it “swallowing.”
You could even have African swallowing, European swallowing, etc.
Now, don’t get me started on coconuts.
Are you suggesting coconuts are migratory?
Ok, swallowing definitely better than spidering.
What about batting?
Why not call the process of coding - enbugging?..
A noble prompt enbuggens the vibest code
From now on I’m not coding, I’m bugging
suit yourself, I’m going forget to close the bin on a hot mucky summer night
That’s vibe
codingbugging
Because frogging sounds like you’re out to catch frogs.
Debugging, when it was coined, was a unique word with no predefined meaning. So it couldn’t be confused with anything else.
The prefix “de” is commonly understood to be the act of removing something (I’m not a languager, you know what I mean). And “bug” was the term for an issue in hardware/software.
So DE-BUG-ING is a nice unique word for the act of removing hardware/software bugs!
No, it was literally searching for bugs in relays or punch card readers.
Which would be a hardware bug.
Ya, I said that. Hardware.
What the fuck is frogging?
Because then you have to release the cranes to catch frogs after they’re done and cranes are assholes
IIRC didn’t the term debugging come from back when computers used vacuum tubes, and there was an issue where a technician removed a moth to fix the issue, thus “debugging” the system?
Maybe it’s not a true story, but I believe that’s the origin.
That log entry was very obviously a pun on the already existing term “bug” for glitches.
I believe it is a true story…
Ok but, like, have you actually seen a frog hunt? It’s a miracle they even survive a week in the wild. They’re cute but also incredibly stupid. Frogging would be the least efficient way to debug your code, I would imagine
So, I mean … Compared to how most people do debugging … Maybe it’s not a bad metaphor.
frogging is also the term for unraveling a knit garment to correct a mistake
Ribbit. Ribbit all out
I find that rebugging is more my style.
Ok, makes sense. I’m a convert. Frogging it is.
