I’m all for masking but I’m sitting across from someone doing this, and almost 6 years later haven’t we learned anything?

That’s like acting confused when someone puts sunblock on their arms but not their legs. So they’re partially but not 100% protected. They’re still getting a benefit. Maybe they’re being careless with the mask, maybe they made a conscious tradeoff, maybe they have a deviated septum. What business of yours is it to even notice, let alone comment on?

Lmao what are you talking about? This is absolutely nothing like putting sunblock on only your arms and not your legs. Wearing a condom with holes in it isn’t partially protecting you. A space suit without a helmet is not protecting you. A cup full of water with a hole in the bottom does not hold water. A mask that does not cover your nose and mouth does not offer any real additional protection to airborne pathogens or irritants.

It is absolutely other people’s business, because what if a doctor told this person to wear a mask to reduce spread of a disease that the person is carrying? Now, they are putting others at an increased risk of contracting the disease. What if they are wearing a mask because they are immunocompromised? I don’t want to kill someone just because they are an idiot and wear a mask wrong.

Maybe think for longer than 3 seconds before acting self righteous, posting your gut response might make you look like a moron.

Except it completely defeats the purpose since you get air through and out of your nose, where things like COVID thrive. It’s not like sunblocking a portion of your body at all, you’re either protected (and protecting others) or you’re not. Do you not breathe or sneeze through your nose somehow? What are you doing when your mouth is closed, holding your breath?

A deviated septum doesn’t entirely block air from entering or exiting your nose. Wearing a mask over their mouth is going to drive more air through the nose than if they just left it off and breathed with their mouth open. It’ll be expelled in a jet, going farther. If they’re internally closing their nose, or it’s completely stuffed up, then there’s no reason to uncover it.

As a person sharing airspace with them, it definitely makes me check to be sure my own mask edges are sealed to prevent me bringing their germs home to my vulnerable family member.

When someone is not masked at all, it’s pretty easy to spot symptoms that remind me to check as well.

I don’t really expect anyone to mask anymore but it’s counterproductive to half-mask.

I notice people give me extra space with my mask, because they assume I’m ill. That’s a winwin for me.

No, its like changing half of the flat tires on your car and saying “meh, that’s fine”.
