I’d ban educational institutions from participating or funding teams. I’m sick of our university budget going to funding the damn sports teams and massive stadiums instead of, you know, education.
I know a lot of hockey fans would be mad at me, but I would ban hockey fights. I’m not really a sports guy, but I can enjoy hockey and its socially useful to follow at least one sport. But hockey fights just make my eyes roll.
The justification I’ve heard is that these guys have knives on their feet. If you didn’t have an approved fight process, you’d have unapproved fights that turn out way worse for the participants.
sometimes I go to fights in hopes that a hockey game will break out
As a hockey fan, I second this. Such a mouth breather aspect of the sport that needs to end.
I don’t like fights either. If I wanted to see that, I would watch boxing. But outside NHL/north america they are very rare
As a German hockey fan, I wish we had more 😅
Does getting the medical team to actually check on contestants between rounds count as a rule?
I assume you’re referring to Snooker
Sumo :3
I don’t actually even know what snooker is lol
A game very similar to pool
Neato :3
Pool is cool
Not a huge grid iron/football fan… I’ve always believed teams should be required to do at least one fake punt/kick per game. You don’t, you lose, regardless of the score. They’re doing this to entertain us, so let’s force in some chaos.
Also, reduce the play timer to say 15s for all but the first down or switching out to kick.
They’re doing this to entertain us, so let’s force in some chaos.
I love this philosophy!
Very specific but no tv timeouts before a powerplay puck drop.
No ads during play would be even better. Puck’s about to drop? Cut back to the game. I would even accept that a short ad runs in between plays as long as it immediately cuts back when play is about to start again.
This would actually be great!
Why isn’t this already a rule? aren’t powerplays one of the most charcteristic aspects of the spirit of hockey?(am newb, forgive me)
You’d think! It happens quite frequently. Softens the blow of a powerplay for the defense to rest.
No more ass spanking
I don’t have a favourite sport.
Looking at most/all of them, I’d get rid of refs. They’re a human factor and they can be bribed/corrupted. We have the tech to show exactly where the ball is with computers. If a ball goes out of bounds, the computer would know it instantly. We can also track shoes. If a player steps over a line, a computer can call them on it instantly.
I’m tired of hearing about biased or dirty refs. We have the technology to replace them. Let’s make use of it.
Or take it the other way. If a foul isn’t too egregious, just let it ride and keep the game moving. Encourage bending of the rules a little. The problem is all the money riding on sports. It’s not about getting out there and having fun. It stops being about that once you enter any organised sport, like at school or through an extracurricular organisation. The only time a sport is about the sport is in your backyard or at the playground. Once you put on team colours, it’s about money. And that might be overly cynical to say about little leagues in the community, but I do believe that’s where it starts. For fans, it’s mostly about the love of the game, though sports betting is really taking off. The disconnect between the fans loving the game and the team management chasing the money is a disconnect I’d see resolved… in an ideal world.
On the surface, this may seem like a good idea, but I’ve seen plenty of time where, despite all the camera angles, a player’s body was blocking a view of the ball/puck/frisbee/whatever and replay was basically useless. In this instances, you really need a “disinterested” third party on the field to make a call. It’s why the replay has to be irrefutable to overturn the call on the field. Also, it’s been awhile, but the NFL used to review just about every play and it was annoying. Games lasted way too long, and it was really hard for teams to maintain any momentum after a big play. Fans actually applauded when they significantly cut back on how much they would review. Since then, they’ve been incrementally bringing it back into the games and I think they’re almost back to it being too much.
Bad calls are a part of sports. They suck, but it’s a random bit of chaos that creates a Bad Guy for all the fans.
“Sex testing” to trample all over trans athletes, clearly.
Why? Should be obvious, but if not: these guys (and it is mostly man instituting these rules) do not give a hoot about “protecting women”, they just want to push a far right agenda item for pretty much the same reason politicians are doing it: to distract from all their misdeeds. Rampant corruption, sexism and doping, to name just a few.
Oh, and get rid of the executives as well while we are at it. Umar Kremlev, Gianni Infantini and all those others.
Yeah, I second any complaints of mine to prioritize fighting this transphobic nonsense.
I would ban ads during the game. A couple of years ago the NHL added digital ads to the boards, effectively making them a green screen with moving ads during play. It’s practically made the sport unwatchable. There’s also the obnoxious banner ads where the score is, and the sponsor name drops from commentary, etc. I hate it.
I would start with banning sports betting ads and all references to the odds.
Bringing back an old one: I think many events at the Olympics should have a non-pro team/competitor to help gauge the level some of these athletes perform at. These teams/individuals should be for all other purposes competing and provide a decent measuring stick. If they win an event, that would be something too.
Not my favorite sport at all but I’d reduce the padding in American football. Injuries are tied to harder hits which are tied to more padding/protective gear making those hits hurt less. If they want to actually fix the concussion problem then use gear like every other contact sport uses and not the massive pads they use today. The hits will be just as effective with way less power/energy needed.
You are allowed to use the gun.
Biathlon only had a single finisher, again.
I think all sports should have winning redefined as “everyone had a good time.”
My wuss bets would finally start paying off.
I would geht rid of the stupid VAR in football.
Maybe change the weird offside rule to something less fluid? Would make it a lot easier to officiate.
