I had ordered a couple things for my wife from the Disney Store recently. PJ’s as a Christmas present. However, I already received everything I had ordered.

Today another box showed up with my name and address, but it’s nothing I ordered.

I just tried chatting with a cast member via their online chat, but I don’t think the person I’m chatting with can wrap their head around the concept.

I know I don’t actually have to do anything about an unsolicited package, but I’m trying to be nice.

They keep asking me about the things I had ordered.

In 2006 I bought a £20 webcam from eBay from what I assume was a wholesale outlet. I received a brand new Xbox 360. Said nothing, but didn’t touch the box for a few weeks in case they contacted me about the error. Never heard anything, so under the TV it went.

In the US, if a package is correctly addressed to you but you did not order it (unsolicited merchandise), you may legally keep it as a promotional gift. If a package is addressed to another person and simply misdelivered, you’re ethically and legally obligated to make an attempt to return it.

The rule allowing recipients to keep unsolicited merchandise in the United States was created to combat deceptive marketing practices. In the mid-20th century, some companies began sending unordered goods—such as books, jewelry, or household items—to consumers and then demanding payment, often implying that failure to return the items constituted acceptance of a purchase. This tactic exploited people who might feel obligated to pay or were unaware that they could refuse the merchandise.

As for the CSR having difficulty understanding your situation, most low level reps are given little training with a list of common problems and remedies. If your problem isn’t listed, they’re not equipped to respond.

Just keep it, shipping mixups happen all the time. It’s cheaper for them to just ignore it. Enjoy whatever.

I’ve gotten two full $50 boardgames the same way before and the store told me not even worth the hassle and cost of shipping back

I got a whole bed once. I ordered one and was charged for one. They somehow sent a second. I think it was a problem with the website. I remember reloading during the order process.

Anyway, I called to return one of them. They were confused by my explanation of what happened. I was on the phone for hours. But, eventually, I got them to take one back. They still issued a refund.

By that point I was so annoyed I didn’t bother to correct it and just kept the $300 bed at no charge.

Haha the way you described here what happened makes it clear that you had to keep rewording it over and over to get them to understand

It took awhile, but they finally understood what I was saying and emailed me a UPS return label.

I don’t mind sending it back. No big deal to print a label and drop it off.

It did take a lot more effort than I thought it would to get them to understand.

I need to be careful about telling my wife.

It occurred to me that this would be an incredibly weird way for one of our kids to tell us we’re going to be grandparents, and I’m fairly certain that doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell. However, I’m sure if it occurred to me, it would definitely occur to her.

I received an instant pot like that once. The fear of it blowing up from a slight oversight was enough motivation to return it to sender.
