Especially for the non-American lemmings, have you ever had a rice krispie treat? Are you able to make or buy these where you live?
I just ate one for the first time in many many years, and wow I forgot how delicious they are.

response: yes, we have a variant of rice thing, probably not equal
Yes, and they are indeed delicious!
Pro tip. Don’t buy the store ones. They’re hot garbage compared to home made. Especially the ooey-gooey, just made, not cooled yet rice krispie treat.
I was given a bag of packaged rice krispies when I went to an event. and they have been amazing. but I suspect you are right, and I think I need to make homemade rice krispie treats very soon.
You will not regret it.
that is “turrón”?
ok, do you have “alfajores”? 😝
I don’t think I’ve ever had turrón, but I think that is different than rice krispie treats.
Where I live, we have many Latinos, so we do have alfajores.
Alfajores are good. I recently saw some that are dipped in chocolate and I really want to try them.
try “alfajores Mar del Plata” (this besch is not so great in comparison with Cancún, but the alfajores are the best of planet)
Cancún is full of sulfuric scented seaweed but I’ll ask about the alfajores Mar del plata
Rice krispie treats are like salads - a good one is really really great and a mediocre one is so disappointing and sad.
Rice Krispie treats are my all time favorite dessert. I could very easily eat a whole plate of the motherfuckers. I hate seeing them at parties because then the whole time is just trying to resist eating them all.
Only homemade tho. The pre-packaged ones are terrible! I dont know how you fuck up rice krispies and marshmallow fluff, but they found a way in the name of shelf-stable preservation.
multiple comments about how much better the homemade version is has got me jumping to go buy the ingredients at the store and make homemade ones. I forgot how amazing rice krispie treats are.
Try this, and thank me later: https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/ultimate-brown-butter-rice-krispies-treats-recipe
The milk powder (don’t skip it, that’s the secret ingredient) keeps them squishy for d a y s
Browning the butter like that recipe suggests is an absolute game changer!
Also, I never knew I could get King Arthur flour shipped directly from their website. but $9.95 for shipping makes it more expensive than going to the store unless I buy like 8 bags of flour.
FWIW I seem to recall getting free shipping codes every now and again from their email list, but haven’t used one in forever so this is fuzzy memory at best. My bet is you could find a free shipping code if you looked a bit.
I joined their Baker’s Rewards program to receive emails from them and they sent me 20% off for an order over US$50. I’m not sure if I want to buy $50 in flour right now but I will consider it/wait for other promos.
I suspect my spouse is going to demand we make this recipe. Thank you.
I have, but not for many years as they are not vegetarian, and vegan marshmallows are expensive.
I didn’t realize that rice krispie treats are not vegetarian but good to know. I have a lot of vegan friends, so I will know to not offer them to them.
They generally have butter (dairy, obv. not vegan) and marshmallows (gelatin, not really even vegetarian). Both have pretty easy swaps on the market, you just have to scope them out in advance.
What do you swap for marshmallows? Besides vegan marshmallows, which i looked up and are $7 for a 10oz bag here, vs $1.25 for a 16oz bag of not vegan marshmallows.
Vegan marshmallows. It’s better for my blood sugar that those tasty fuckers are so expensive.
Can you use treacle instead of marshmallow?
Sure, Every now and then I will make a batch to snack on.
Yes, and I don’t like them at all.
fair enough!
Like those you get prepackaged at a store?
Yea I kinda don’t like it… too much sugar
(USA)
Home made are much better.
apparently we gotta make them at home to get the good ones. I’ve recently become obsessed with the prepackaged ones so imagine how crazy I’ll be eating the homemade version!
I just made them recently, which I had not had for a long time since I have been vegetarian for most of my life. They are so good. I didn’t realize how much butter they use, which is why they are so gooey.
We used to also make them with Fruity or Cocoa Pebbles instead of Rice Krispies. Good stuff!
We make these occasionally and yes I think they are good!
